Freemake convertor on linux

Hi !

Freemake is a great videocutter and convertor but only for windows
Looks it is built around directx so throretically it can be used on linux
Is it possible in some way?
No need to install if it is problematic so as it can run from memory stick
(copied there from windows installed programmes file from disc C
anyway Metatrader 4 functions fine in this way }

Is there any other way to run freemake on linux ?

You will need to download Freemake installer and Wine for that. First you will need to install it, you can either choose Wine Stable from Q4OS Software Center or you can install Wine Staging, which has better support for most Windows software. As I tried installing Wine Staging, the repository from their site doesn't work so you can use an alternate one from openSUSE Software repositories

echo 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/SveSop/Debian_10/ /' > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/home:SveSop.list
wget -nv https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:SveSop/Debian_10/Release.key -O Release.key
apt-key add - < Release.key
apt-get update
apt-get install wine-staging

Then right click on the installer file and select Wine. If you managed to make Freemake portable it should work too.

Wine and winetricks installed
also directx9 and cubextract
freemake exe downloaded
but no luck
What to do ?

Be so kind to answer if it is possible to run freemae on linux
Should distributive be installed on hard drive?

Unfortunately, we have no experience with Freemake. Try to follow the advise above by  @Tomsonas. You could also try to run it in terminal:
$ wine the_freemake_exe_installer
and post the output here.

You could try Lossless Cut which does have a linux binary version. I've used it for simple file trimming.

Losslesscut has one very strange feature
strart point to cut is set always a little backward while end point is correct
how could it be explained?
does anybody have the answer?

freemake requires net framework to be installed but it is not supported
is there any method to get it installed on linux system?
does anybody know how to cope with this problem?

I would like to see this program work too, I have been trying with PlayOnLinux with different wine versions and with different (older) freemake versions but to no avail. Only thing I got working was the main window, and then upon selecting some video it crashed.

I won't give up! But hopefully someone will succeed before and present the solution here...

You could always take a look at Linux Alternatives to Freemake to see what native Linux apps might be available with the same (if not better) functionality.

looked at all of them
very complicated and clumsy
only losslesscut is almost as good
but it has big disadvantage
starting point can not be fixed where needed
it is fine for approximate  trimming but not suitable for precise cutting
is ther any method to fix this problem?
then losslesscut will be ok

In Openshot Video Editor you can position the Slice tool on an a frame by frame basis. I don't think you'll get much better than that.
