does not start without a vga monitor. How do configure it?

That's a double negative, so starts with VGA Monitor. You get a VGA monitor and you plug it in. Don't have one, too bad. Jokes. But using the VGA interface to setup linux is almost necessary and strongly recommended. Just bite the bullet. xserver-xorg-video should support all video cards in vga mode. That being said, sometimes Nvidia and Debian initially work against each other to not show you the screen, but that's another issue altogether.
