Hi,
Just tried K9Copy and it started OK but then just went on forever making disc thrashing noises.
Anyone got a good suggestion on how they make DVD backups on Q4OS?
Cheers!

Ignore that - looks like K3B is doing the job fine!
Also there was a large greasy thumb print on the disc - Doh!

K3b is my favorite but I also use Brasero or XFburn that work well.

Both failed. Now trying dvdbackup CLI tool. It started with a number of the following
*** Zero check failed in src / ifo_read.c:855
for cell_position[i].zero_1 = 0x08
which makes me think the disc is damaged. There does seem to be a number of surface aberrations.
Just now dvdbackup is making a similar noise that K9Copy did - disc thrashing!
As an aside DVDFab on that other OS didn't seem to have any trouble, suspect it just fills bad cells?
Here we go...

Just tried with a different disc and worked perfectly. Odd thing is the disc I started with looks either good or very good in terms of surface scratches. On a quick look you'd even say it was very good to mint. Is there any scheme that used to be used [Disc is from 2007] that attempts to prevent copying / backup that somehow fools software into detecting bad sectors etc when on read back is fine?

Ive had so few issues with K3b honestly it tends to be issues with the disc. Using a flashlight many times you can spot very fine scratches or imperfections that can cause issues but temperature or accidentally contact with substances on the surface could cause issues.
