Did you have the libpcap deb file? if not download it ( https://packages.debian.org/buster/libpcap0.8 ) and try this
sudo dpkg -i libpcap0.8_1.8.1-6_i386.deb
You might need to also run the following to ensure the system is clean.
sudo apt -f install

Hello!
Thank you very much for your help!!
...I managed to have an internet connection but (big) problems remain.
What I have done: I have done what you told me, entered command sudo pppoeconf, obtained the connection; I have downloaded and installed Firefox web browser, and french langage for O4OS (without problem).
But it's impossible to launch Firefox: nothing is happening.
When I launch Konqueror, it connects but for a very short time, after one or two web pages, a message says "an error occurs during..." "impossible to connect..." and it seems like I had losed the connection. But I think it's not case, it seems that something use the connection meanwhile... (I have had no problem downloading programs)
And when I can use Konqueror, the web pages are not complete: I have big problems with javascript. it's exactly like when I use windows 98se!...
Finally, I have suppressed the false DHCP wired connection, because the DHCP connection manager constantly try to connect... But it changes nothing to the previous problems.
How can I fix these problems with Konqueror and Firefox, and surf on the web without without having limitations with javascript?
Thank you in advance!

Which way did you install Firefox ? Please describe.
Please run Firefox from terminal:
$ firefox
and post terminal output here to analyze.
Offline
You might need to run firefox-esr from the terminal if you installed the debian version. And Konqeoror is not really a good browser for modern web pages, it can be useful for html only sites but doesn't have the extra things that Firefox/Chrome (or their derivatives) have.
Offline
I simply downloaded Firefox with the Q4OS software center, and I followed the instructions. I do the same way for downloading VLC media player and Wine. I used the icon from de desktop to download the french langage for Q4OS.
Here is the output of $ firefox:
This browser version requires a processor with the SSE2 instruction set extension.
You may be able to obtain a version that does not require SSE2 from your Linux distribution.

Thank you very much for your help.
I have downloaded inxi package from here: https://packages.debian.org/buster/inxif from an other PC where I get an internet connection.
I get a "command not found". Here is the output of "sudo apt install inxi":

I could translate it by:
"E: dpkg has been interrupted. It is necessary to use "sudo dpkg --configure -a" to correct the problem."
I'm sorry for my bad english.

To install the package without internet connection you would need to use the following command
LC_ALL=C sudo apt install ./inxi_3.0.32-1-1_all.deb
but it will likely fail due to dependency issues.
I would follow the advise from apt and try running
LC_ALL=C sudo dpkg --configure -a
but again it may fail without internet connection but should be tried first.
Note: LC_ALL=C before the commands with give you output in English to make pasting it here easier

Just to re-cap, do you have any networking on this machine? I thought you had the network connection sorted and needed to get firefox working?
Offline
Yes, I have an internet connection, but very bad. I would say: just the time to display one or two pages with the browser. But it's very odd because to download software with Q4OS software center for 15 minutes, all is right...
1) when I launch Konqueror, it connects but for a very short time, after one or two pages, a message says "an error occurs while loading the page..." "impossible to connect to https://www..." and it seems like I had losed the connection. But I think it's not case, it seems that something use the connection meanwhile... All that time the link LED on the modem flashes very fast...
And when I can use Konqueror, the web pages are not complete: I have big problems with javascript. it's exactly like when I use windows 98se!...
2) The firefox version I have installed with Q4OS software center is not the correct one: I need a browser version of Firefox which no requires a processor with the SSE2 instruction set extension (my processor is AMD Athlon 2800 XP-M).
So, firefox doesn't work at all, and the connection is very very bad with Konqueror (unusable).
Offline
Ok, if we forget the browser issue for a moment and concentrate on getting your internet connection stable first I think it would be easier, after booting up could you run the following
LC_ALL=C sudo apt update
and then if no errors
LC_ALL=C sudo apt upgrade
and then again if no errors
LC_ALL=C sudo apt install console-setup
and then
LC_ALL=C sudo apt -f install
Please post any output or errors here.
Offline
Please follow instructions by @Dai_trying to get an active Internet connection first.
Once you get Internet connection working, we would recommend you to install Palemoon browser using the Q4OS installer. It should work even for non-see systems. You can download the installer using the link below:

That looks ok so far, it might be that unattended upgrades is installed and it will automatically upgrade the packages for you, this will lock apt from performing other install/update/upgrade commands and is not unusual. Give it a while (10 minutes should be plenty) and then try the upgrade command again, it might tell you there are no upgrade available in which case UA will have done that for you, but if not let the upgrade process finish and then try the last two commands from #39

Ok that looks great! hopefully now you should be able to download the installer for palemoon browser from the Q4OS repository https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … erimental/ or you could simply type in a terminal
wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/files/apps_experimental/setup_q4os-palemoon_3.1-a1_all.esh
which might be easier as you are having browser problems. After that use your file manager and navigate to the installer file, double click it to start the installer. When it has finished you should have an icon either on the desktop or in your menu for the palemoon browser, fire it up and hopefully it should work ok.
If you have problems with palemoon you could start it in a terminal (just type palemoon and enter) then report any errors here.
Offline
Thank you very much for your help.
I have installed palemoon by using the command:
wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … a1_all.esh
When I launch the browser, it's OK but after 3 or 4 pages, the PC froze. I'm obliged to switch off the power and to reboot (the mouse cursor works but I can't do anything with it, nor turn off the computer ). I did that 3 times...So it doesn't work.
Can it be a problem of about 32 or 64 bits browsers or a bad version of palemoon?...
Offline
I haven't heard any other users having problems with it but of course it is possible, could you open palemoon from the command line and monitor any errors while you are browsing as it might contain some useful information.
Offline
I have launched palemoon from the command line and I have reduced the window to see what was happening in the terminal if the PC frozes: nothing at all.
The¨PC has frozen, the mouse cursor was working but I couldn't do anything with it. After 5 minutes, I was obliged to turn off the power again.
But I have could surf any longer as I stayed on google. I think it depends on which site I go: here for exemple, https://www.leboncoin.fr/ventes_immobilieres/offres/ the PC frozes.
May it be a problem caused by javascript? (that's the case with windows XP for that page; but with windows 7 and Firefox on an other PC all is OK...)
In fact, my unique purpose is to try to use Q4OS to avoid to have to buy windows OS. I just want to solve the javascript problem I have in the browser with windows XP to display the pages on the web...
Offline
That page gives 3 main errors.
1. downloadable font: kern: Too large subtable, table discarded (font-family: "OpenSans" style:normal weight:normal stretch:normal src index:0) source: https://static-rav.leboncoin.fr/e78dce5 … 248d.woff2
2. unreachable code after return statement in tags.js (2 times)
3. This site appears to use a scroll-linked positioning effect. This may not work well with asynchronous panning; see https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Mozi … kedEffects for further details and to join the discussion on related tools and features!
I would guess this is the cause of your crashes, actually that and the fact you are using what is now considered a low spec machine.
Are there any other pages that cause this to happen?
Offline
Ok, I'll jump back in here. I've been following, hoping you would find a solution.
I have one webpage that does that same thing. A few times (very few) I had a terminal open in another virtual desktop with the command "killall firefox" typed and ready for enter. When the webpage started locking up the computer I could change to the other desktop and press enter. Takes a few clicks and a wait till it would switch to the other desktop. A few times that would kill firefox and unlock the computer, other times I had to do like Jean 1 and power down the computer. Now I tend to avoid that website.
Just the one webpage. Haven't encountered any others that do that. I first thought it was my ad blocker, but disabling that did not help.
Webpage https://bongino.com/
it usually takes a few minutes till the lockup happens.
Offline
The first error I saw on that page is [Facebook Pixel] - Duplicate Pixel ID: 2064627950451022. but I don't imagine that would cause an issue, but after about a minute it popped another error to the console
This site appears to use a scroll-linked positioning effect. This may not work well with asynchronous panning; see https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Mozi … kedEffects for further details and to join the discussion on related tools and features!
And as this is the same as one from the previous page checked I would imagine this would be the problem. It might be worth reporting it to the site owners to see if they want to fix it (Or maybe report error to the browser devs).
