Kate Gdebi Crash after opening

Hi,

I have installed both Kate and Gdebi via apt. Kate does not open but shows a symbol attached to the cursor which stays there for about 10 seconds and disappears. Gdebi opens finds the package to install then I press install and then Gdebi crashes. Any help would be appreciated.

We can confirm the Kate issue in Trinity desktop. In Plasma, it works fine. In Trinity, the shortcut tries to run "/opt/trinity/bin/kate -b" instead of "/usr/bin/kate -b". You can workaround this issue creating a custom shortcut either for "/usr/bin/kate -b" or "/opt/trinity/bin/kate" command. You can run kate from terminal as well.

Gdebi runs and installs a package fine here. Please try to run it from terminal:
$ gdebi-gtk
and post the terminal output for us to analyze.

Thank you I fixed the Gdebi issue using the workaround suggested back on 5/31/19 in a reply on this forum. I will institute the Kate workaround.
