Q4OS Orion 32-bit. Pentium D dual core. Up to date until:
2 or 3 days ago the red icon appeared letting me know there were updates available.
There were 6 or 8 updates available and I clicked "yes" in the update manager. I thought everything was OK until I got an error message. I think it may have been error 1000, not sure, or it may have been error 1001. Anyway...
Since then the red icon appears with the following updates. I think they are the remaining updates that were not installed earlier.
The following packages will be upgraded:
libpython3.4-minimal (3.4.2-1+deb8u3 => 3.4.2-1+deb8u4)
libpython3.4-stdlib (3.4.2-1+deb8u3 => 3.4.2-1+deb8u4)
python3.4 (3.4.2-1+deb8u3 => 3.4.2-1+deb8u4)
python3.4-minimal (3.4.2-1+deb8u3 => 3.4.2-1+deb8u4)
After clicking "yes" everything proceeds as normal and I get the following message:
Fixing apt database ...
Then I get this message.
Update manager has been exited with error code: 1004.
Please, try to run Update Manager a few minutes later again.
Within a few seconds the red icon appears again and the whole cycle repeats itself.
I didn't install any new hardware or software apart from the Firefox ESR upgrades.
Other than that, everything appears to run OK.
What to do?

You could try this solution for a similar recent problem, it should get that sorted out.

OK thanks. I will try that but not until the weekend when I have more time in case something goes disasterously wrong.
