If an upgrade of "unattended-upgrade" package is performed manually, it shows a debconf dialog for user to make a desired configuration. If the upgrade goes automatically, it keeps the original, or user defined, settings.

I think that could be relative thing as my boot times (on spinning disks) are less than 60 seconds and I cannot see a second or two making any significant difference, to say it makes boot times slow is at the very least over stating it.

made 1.5 sec diff on my ssd, thought might share it since u have already disabled it via config

1.5 seconds does seem a lot - do you have before and after bootcharts?

The q4os-desktop has been updated and now lists unattended upgrades as recommended and not required, this allowed me to remove it without issue and so my problem is solved, Thank to the devs for the once again super quick resolution.

Personally I like to setup unattended upgrades so that *all* packages are upgraded automatically and I remove q4os-updater. No issues, everything works fine.

A better suggestion would be that q4os-updater would support that option and could be setup via gui for regular users. A switch or two modes supporting automatic updates (unattended) or manual updates (normal updater function, requires update approval).

Edit: This, of course, would require unattended-upgrades as a dependency.

Yes, we would like to remade the updater in the exact way you have described. Once passed, it should be a part of the core Q4OS install. There could be a simple logic in the gui to enable unattended-upgrades, only if installed. So unattended-upgrades package has not to be necessarily required.

That's an option yes, you could even prompt for and install of the required unattended-upgrades package, if not installed.

deleted the before one but thats how i realized its delaying my start. it along with ufw service were the culprits, highlighted in red all along
but u can try it yourself if you want, just change the timer of the upgrade servce and add OnBootSec= to the secs of your liking
i have kept it to 120 secs so it does not interfere with my other startup timers

[Timer]
OnBootSec=124
RandomizedDelaySec=60m
Persistent=true

[Install]
WantedBy=timers.target

is what i changed in it

Yes the Pi version has the same issue, and I just ran apt update and the q4os-desktop for Pi version has not yet been updated, but I am sure it will be in due time.

With Raspbian ( I think ( but now am not sure ) ) the only time it updates is with ' apt update '
There is also an ' apt upgrade ' ?

I'm pretty sure unattended-upgrades is not installed on Raspbian by default and you would need to update/upgrade manually, although if you wanted Raspbian to upgrade automatically you could install it and it should work.

You cannot remove UA in Q4OS Scorpion so far. First we need to check carefully impacts and consequences of such a change into the stable systems.
