DRM for Opera possible?

Chrome or Firefox are always handy to watch videos with DRM requirement.
Can Opera or Vivaldi get it too?

Re: DRM for Opera possible?

Using mostly Opera as of late (tired of Mozilla shenanigans) but not a huge issue having to use Chrome for DRM videos.

8G of RAM is better.
Don't know how i put that other number there before.

Re: DRM for Opera possible?

the way i got drm to work in opera is download chromium extra ffmpeg codecs, they are in synaptic
then go to /usr/lib/chromium-browser and copy the libffmpeg.so to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera. thats it, opera will start playing drm
i am note sure if it is officially supported or if any law is bent while doing so

Re: DRM for Opera possible?

u r right, allow me to give detailed instructions below:

Get chromium's "chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra" from here http://ppa.launchpad.net/saiarcot895/ch … m-browser/ Just browse the page, as a web-page

On that page will be a list of links to various chromium crap. Get the best (for you) link to the chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra package. It will be something like http://ppa.launchpad.net/saiarcot895/ch … _amd64.deb but the '3452' will have changed.

download the *.deb file

on Debian, use gdebi to install that *.deb . Covert the *.deb to your own distro's packing form on other flavours of linux

Now, you have to copy /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libffmpeg over opera's libffmpeg. Do NOT try any linking or using a resources file or directory, or anything involving ffmpeg_preload_config.json. Just copy chromium's copy of ffmpeg over the top of opera's

i see them in my synaptic as they were already installed. You ofcourse will not see in your synaptic as they aren't yet installed. Sorry for the confusion.
I got the above from reditt post a few months ago. I followed the exact above and am enjoying drm in opera since then smile

Best luck!

Found the Opera folder but... me no no how to open as root (blush).
There's no "open as root" on right-click.

Re: DRM for Opera possible?

Thank you sickpig for your cues so far.
I know i'm on the right track now.
Just have to let that "natural selection" do its thing.

Re: DRM for Opera possible?

Thats what i like to hear!
you are most welcome
glad to know u can now use drm enabled opera.
sorry u had to install pcmanfm, an easy trick i use to find the binary name is search for the package name in synaptic, then hit properties, then click on installed files. The binary is typically found in the location ending with bin.

Re: DRM for Opera possible?

@sickpig - thanks again for the "tutorial", it was another excellent hands-on occasion for (a non-geek like) me to get more familiar with Linux.
