Alternatives should work out of the box, please specify the particular command in question.

Should have been more specific.
Right-click on the menu icon and selecting "alternatives" remains idle, without response.

Reminds me... a few weeks ago, took latest KDE Neon out for a drive and had same issue.
Probably my laptop make and hardware.

KDE Neon 20181129 has resolved this issue for me.

As Debian Buster receives upstream testing KDE fixes, the same way as Neon, the issue will be most likely resolved in Q4OS Centaurus as well. Please report back, if possible, thanks.

Seeing that you're so nice with me...
Have removed KDE Neon to install Q4OS again and the "alternatives" option via right-click on menu works! yay!

Just wondering if absence of 3rd alternative (forget the name) where everything is "blown up" on the monitor is a Q4OS thing?

Think i finally found the nutsandbolts of the problem.
Right-clicking on the "application menu" does show "alternatives" but clicking on "alternatives" has no effect,
whereas clicking onto the "application menu" which also shows "application menu" on right-click, will work when selected.
Phew!

This is a "dashboard style" menu, it's not in Debian/Q4OS repositories and cannot be installed at the moment, however it may be available before Debian Buster becomes stable.
We have just checked "alternatives" and it works exactly as expected in a testing Virtual machine, with the recent system updates applied.

That's good!
Thank you Q4OS Team!
