I am looking to purchase a headset with microphone but the ones I am looking at tend to state that they are compatible with Windows but do not seem to mention Linux.
With this in mind, I shall be grateful for any recommendations for headsets that are compatible with Q4OS.

I have a logitech one (h390 I think?) that works GREAT. Was fairly cheap for a USB headset, stereo with an adjustable boom microphone. I use it for conference calls at work mostly when I'm working from home.

Sounds like a good choice although I may just end up purchasing a USB microphone.
Did the headset work out of the box without the need to locate and install any drivers because when I reviewed the system requirements there was no mention of linux?

It did on all the installations I've used it on. Immediately seen as a multimedia device and just changed the pulse settings to use it as the default for speaker & mic.
