Q4OS Scorpion 2.5

Q4OS Scorpion 2.5 series has been started. The key change is closer KDE Plasma integration to the core system, Q4OS installer configures the system the usual way, but decides to offer additional installation of the KDE Plasma desktop, if sufficient hardware resources detected. Please read the complete release notes here https://www.q4os.org/blog.html#news180603

Re: Q4OS Scorpion 2.5

I'm interested in something lightweight that offers KDE programs compatibility, but without the bloat of kde, thank you very much.
It's a good thing it is only offered, and not forced.
I hope that this does not signal a future direction to emphasizing KDE at the expense of Trinity.

Re: Q4OS Scorpion 2.5

I'm not fan of Kde : a beautiful desktop but not what I want !
TDE is a good option and it's a good mariage with Q4os.
I hope this desk will carry on. LXQT can be another good desk for Q4os.

Have a good day

Re: Q4OS Scorpion 2.5

I'm quite sure you guys get a lot of pressure from die-hard KDE users... the same handful of people that pressure each and every distro under the sun, to keep or adopt KDE.
But KDEbloat is really not what your userbase is looking for, nor will it be very successful in attracting KDE users from other distros.
If anything, it'll just give you more headaches... because once they're in, they'll be jostling for an unfair share of attention.

Re: Q4OS Scorpion 2.5

I have tested Q4OS 2.5 with KDE. It is much heavier and slower than old good Trinity. Trinity is the best desktop environment in Q4OS for now. Of course there are alternatives, such as XFCE, but definitely not KDE...
With KDE, Q4OS will loose It`s unique lightness and ability to work fast on any computer, even on the old ones. It will be "just another Linux with KDE".
I don`t think it will be good for Q4OS. Quite the opposite, It will simply vanish between another Linuxes with KDE. Q4OS Team, please, do NOT make this happen!

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.
