Brightness Settings

Hello, I'm a new Q4OS user and highly satisfied by the distro. Everything works fine and rock solid stable, but I miss one important feature : Brigthness Settings.

Now I'm using xbacklight to adjust my monitor's brightness, but I think, it will be great if the developer could bring a GUI based brightness setting in the next Q4OS release.

You could install tdepowersaver (or maybe you already have it installed) and simply hover your mouse over the icon (bottom right of screen) and use the mouse scroll wheel to adjust brightness up or down.

Apparently, tdepowersave is already installed. But it does not have the manual option to reduce screen brightness. There are only 4 options : Performance, Powersave, Presentation and accoustic.

What I'm talking here is screen brightness settings like in gnome or xfce where you can adjust the screen brightness manually by percentage.

Maybe I'll just keep going with xbacklight.

If you scroll the mouse wheel while hovering over the icon, the display will reduce/increase the same as using a gui with a slider.

Out of curiosity, are you developers all still on desktops with external mice?

I am also new to Q4os, and like most people, am on a laptop.  I don't have a mouse with a mouse wheel, but a trackpad with gestures.

OK, it's now 2018, and this is now about Q4os version 2.5

Please tell me that the fact that brightness Fn keys don't work out of the box, is due to an oversight on my part.*
Also, touchpad scroll (drag 2 fingers) doesn't seem to be active either.

* I checked out the ControlPanel, Monitor&Display, (enable display control), Brightness&Gamma, and all that does is really mess up the colors. I'm stumped!

I've got some pretty common hardware: AMD A6 quadcore, Radeon graphics, 6GB RAM, big hard disk.  (Gateway model NV75S 07H)

Unfortunately, there is no gui tool to actually configure your touchpad available in Trinity as well as in LXQt. You could use config tools from other desktop environments, for example XFCE or configure it manually, please see:

I use both laptop and desktop machines, on my laptop (without any configuration changes) I can slide the right side of my touchpad to simulate the scroll wheel and this works for the screen brightness too.

And there's no brightness controls either?  Do it manually?  Sounds like something I would have done over a decade ago. 

This kind of stuff has been supported in other distros for so long now, that some of them aren't even made anymore!

Come on guys!   It's 2018! 

I noticed that you want this to be the easy replacement for your commercial customers.  But until you guys get serious about making things work out of the box, your distro is only going to be marginalized, for the geeks.  IT maintenance costs are too high to start messing with the little things, when other OSes have it already auto-detected and installed for you.

Just tried that, hovering the mouse over the battery icon in the system tray, while sliding the right-hand side of the touchpad, and it indeed works!

For future searchers, adding these words:

Maybe he dimmed his screen to blackout and forgot how to turn it back up again haha.

Oh, forgot to mention same technique works for sound as well.

#protip for noobs like me: if trackpad not working, try moving your mouse away from screen edge first - doesn't work when the mouse is right at the edge.
