Hi
I installed Q4OS on this brand new Laptop. P/N: FPC05041BP
Booting and followinginstallation without any problems!! Nice!
Installing Firefox, Thunderbird, ... all very nice and smooth.
And I really want to say thank you for this nice OS. My friends all think this is a M$ OS
But now to my 3 problems:(
a) the resolution is tied to 1280x1024 - which is virtual. If I choose 1024x768 everything looks ok (the desktop then ends with the clock in the downright corner) but as soon as I reboot - I am back to the defaults. I even saved my wanted resolution in a profile and ticked: "apply at startup" but this gets ignored.
b) there is no clean shutdown. I can shutdown until the lappy should switch off but then, instead of switching off the screen gets lighter and lighter and lighter and all fans are speeding as if it now wants to take off. I then have to knock it off hard. (Power Button > 4 sec) (Otherwise I assume it might explode)
c) I am here in Germany. I can login with my password without any problem. (So the keyboard setting must be correct until this point) But then the keyboard layout changes somehow. This results in "0" becomes "/" and "m" becomes "0". Took me a while to find this out cuz my lappy later on did not allow me to become root. (there is a "0" in my password)
I can change keyboard layouts as I wish (Switzerland, Austria, you name it - and 104, 105, nodeadkeys, FSC keyboard ... there is absolutely no change) Country is set to "Germany" of course.
All updates are installed. Fresh installed OS. Hope someone knows how to get this nice OS running smooth.

a. I just tested on my system and I set the screen resolution from right-click desktop -> select Configure Desktop -> select Display from this screen I set the resolution and applied it to make sure it looked ok, then I checked the Apply settings on TDE startup box, applied it and clicked ok. When I rebooted it worked as expected (saved the configuration).
b. I have had this on older machines and there is sometimes a setting in the bios to enable/disable ACPI which might help, if not sometimes a bios restore to default settings could fix it but make sure you take a note of the current settings first (or back them up if that option exists) in case you need them set a certain way.
c. I have had a similar issue with keyboards and I found that I needed to make sure the locale settings were correct Start -> Control Centre -> Regional & Accessibility -> Country/Region & Language also check in the Keyboard Layout to make sure you have the correct one and remove any that are not required.
I read that you can change keyboard layouts and language ok but it might be worth ensuring there aren't any installed that you don't want/need.

Thanks a lot for your answer. I will try all of it tomorrow and report back!

You may only need to switch NumLock off, please see https://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#system.2

Ok, so
a) worked like a charm after the second reboot. I do not know why it needed a second reboot but now it works.
b) unfortunately I do not have any ACPI settings in my BIOS. So I tried some grub parameter like:
nolapiq acpi=noirq
reboot=BIOS
acpi=off
acpi=force
but they all did not change anything. The laptop is shutting down but does not turn off nor reboot.
c) I will test tomorrow and report back. I have not read this hint before. Sorry.
Thanks a lot for your support!

I thought you'd WANT to have acpi enabled for a normal shutdown?

Hello,
sorry for taking a bit longer.
The last info with "disabling "Num Lock" via SystemCenter -> Keyboard settings ... worked fine too. Thanks!
Yep - I need ACPI for shutting down completely. But what shall I do if it does not shutdown with ACPI enabled. (At least I think it is enabled)
So my last problem is still that the lappy does not shutdown completely but keeps on running ... with fans running like hell. Screen turning white. Maybe someone knows what to do in this case.

I had this problem on an old Compaq desktop that I used, I did manage to get it working at one point (powering down correctly) but it was not 100% fix and would still occasionally hang at the same point as your system is, I cannot recall how I got the best results but will try to dig this old system out to see if I can find the BIOS setting I had to change for best results.

This 'hang on shutdown' thing has been the bane of my life since the 4.x kernel series.
OK it's my fault for keeping on using 2006/2007 machines but they still work!
Hence I still run Q4OS Orion and MX-15/16 with 3.16 kernel - come 2020 I guess it's 3 perfectly good machines off to landfill or whatever.

Same here. I cannot throw them away if they still work And this lappy looks brand new.
I had this problem before too on a desktop pc. But there it was possible to get rid of it with a grub parameter. But cannot remember what it was. I assume at that time I was running the pc with "nolapic acpi=noirq" but this does not work here.
But still happy with it. Thank you all for taking part in reviving this trusty lappy.

@Peterling Same machine here! but with 1024mb of ram and a 160gb ide hdd .
With centaurus same problems, but i have seen that there have been some work with S3 gfx, maybe it will be better... in the future
Btw, have you ever considered using a ide to msata and an msata sdd? (i don't have an msata hdd, but i think performances will be better ).
