LibreOffice 6.0

I just installed LibreOffice 6.0, but it does not work. I know there can be little intricacies between different Debian based distros. I was able to install 6.0 on other Debian based distros with no issues.

I uninstalled the deb packages for 6.0 using the command below:
apt-get remove `find -iname '*.deb' -exec dpkg --info '{}' \; | awk '/Package:/ {print $2}'`

I still have the directory I created and the deb packages themselves in case I want to try to install again. Please advise. Thanks.

Did you install the version from libreoffice.org, or did you add buster/sid repos and install from there?

Ive run into some issues with LO 6, nothing major, but honestly Id recommend people stick to 5.37 or 5.44 for the time being.

I have installed LO6 from from libreoffice.org, both Linux x64 (deb) and Linux x86 (deb) manually with "dpkg -i *.deb" on my laptop and on my netbook and have no problems. Everything works fine.

Glad youre ok BSpinoza, but many users are having some issues with LO 6. Many still cant save xml documents but thats one of many issues Im sure they will be working on.

OK, I've never used LO6 with xml documents. But some issues with LO 6 I think is not the main problem of chiguy1256.
What I want to say is that the installation of LO 6 with the downloadeded deb files made no problems.

Misunderstood sorry, but there have been reports of problems installing LO 6 on Debian and Ubuntu as well so I was generalizing to a variety of problems being reported.

When I try to open a document with LO 6.0, the LO 6.0 startup screen pops up, but the document never opens. I'm going reinstall the LO that comes with Q4OS.

I have install LO 6.0 on other Debian based distros with no issues. This is my first time running into this issue.

Just a quick note for anyone trying to install LO 6.0 in q4os Scorpion, it's now available in the backports repository of stretch which I believe is enabled by default in q4os...

apt install -t stretch-backports libreoffice

Not enabled by default, but it's easy to enable it, just run command:
$ sudo qrepoadd --gui
and select the 'stretch-backports' repository. Next, install libreoffice as suggested above:
$ sudo apt install -t stretch-backports libreoffice

How do I check to see if I have Q4OS Scorpion? I tried the suggestion, but I get the error below. Thanks.

The value 'stretch-backports' is invalid for APT::Default release as such release is not available in the sources.

You can type in a terminal

get-q4os-version

if the version begins with 1 you have Orion, if it begins with 2 you have Scorpion, if it begins with 3 you have Centaurus.

FYI, I had the same error. So I then tried "backports-stretch" (since that's how it displays in the qrepoadd GUI), still no joy. So I thought I'd go into Synaptic to verify which repos were enabled: stretch-backports was listed, but not enabled. Once that repo was enabled (and things refreshed), the CLI instructions provided by @q4osteam worked without issue for me. I'm not very familiar with Debian or apt, so there's probably a more efficient/proper way.

Thank you all very much for this procedure! My Q4OS version is 2.4.2-n1 (Scorpion).

BTW, @crosscourt, I tried saving a very simple odt test file as MS docx/xml, and didn't experience any problems saving, opening, or editing further. Perhaps 6.0.1.1 addressed at least this problem? I've been using LO6 in other OS (Win, Manjaro) without issue. YMMV.

You must first enable the backports repository, this can be done by typing in a terminal :

sudo qrepoadd --gui

This will bring up a dialog box, select backports-stretch and click ok, this enables the backports repository. Next you will need to refresh your package lists, this can be done by typing this command in a terminal:

sudo apt update

Now you can install the package from the backports repository with this command:

sudo apt -t stretch-backports install libreoffice

Once this has finished you should have the version 6 of LO installed.

Using Orion I had already installed 5.2 from Jessie backports making sure to get the libreoffice-gtk2/3 support as I hate inconsistent UI appearance.

Installed 6.01 from LO deb download via dpkg and all is OK once I changed to Tango or Galaxy LO Style. The new default style would only show a couple of icons in the ribbon.

Saves to XML format no problems.

I need Draw to edit pdf files and it is a lot slicker in 6 than 5.
