gparted - where is it gone?

Quite sure to have utilized gparted during the installation of q4os, according to synaptic, it's not part of the system any more.
Wehre did it go, why is it away?

Edit: i intend to resize (lessen) the q4os system partition (to gain space for scorpion) - That shouldn't be a problem for gparted?

You can install gparted from Synaptic as its available. Gparted can handle your action just fine.

And an additional question:
I'm going to resize that partition on a ,hot-plugged' disk. I didn't find any possibility to ,eject' a hot-swapped disk, to safely remove it. Plugging in the disk, there doesn't appear any icon in the tray, like for an usb-device !?

Ive had no issues with USB,ESATA or Firewire devices while the system is running in Q4OS 2.4 all hot plug/hot swap devices.

Install gnome-disk-utility - Shows up in the menu as Disks.

Select your drive on the left hand side.

Select partition and click the Unmount button, then click the Power button in the top menu to power down the drive - saves all that nasty ripping out cables to power down.

I had noticed the same problem when using my external usb drives and have got into the habit of shutting down the system before removing them, this is quite probably not needed but it's one of my "better safe than sorry" methods. I might take a look at Gnome disks though if it can power down the unit, as that would save me from another power cycle. (Thanks bin )

Gparted is not installed within the fresh new installation to keep the target system as clean and minimal as possible.

Yes, you can use Gparted to resize Q4OS system partition. Backing up your data is recommended.

EDIT: Edited according to Dai_trying's post below, you cannot resize a system partition, if it's mounted as root partition. The best way is to boot from live media.

One more thing to note is that you would need to run from a live session (or another installation) to resize your installed partition size as you cannot do this from the session you are currently running. If that is to be your intent you might not need to have GParted installed (I always do though as it is very useful for managing usb sticks too) you can simply do it from the live-cd.

That's indeed what i assumed. However, a partitioning tool should be part of the basic installation imo.

And that's indeed what i observed. After unmounting the partition again, gp could perform the operation.

Background of the exercise: i plan to install Scorpion besides Win and Orion on one disk (hope that a tri-boot will be possible !?), so i first had to shrink orion's partition (whose size i chosed far to big at that time...).

Under windows i utilized several times the tool "Easus Partition Master" (Home Edition) that was capable to perform a resize-operation even to an active system partition: After pressing the "Perform Task"-button the system shuts down, does the work automatically (in a small ,live environment'), re-boots, and it's done.
Anyway, i can live with the solution to boot in a second system and do it with gp on the inactive disk.
