Thunderbird problem

Ever since adding Nautopolis for Thunderbird Theme, my email links won't open. I've removed the add on,and I removed Thunderbird/reinstalled via Synaptic,...still not working. Can anyone suggest a "fix"...?

I have recently had this issue with a friends machine, what browser do you have? and how did you install it?

I use Firefox(newest version) mostly. Occasionally, I also use Slimjet. I never use Google. I have my preferences in Thunderbird set to Bing search engine. It was installed with the Q4OS Scorpion ISO disc that I burned.

Running Thunderbird in safe mode might have been a better choice? Youd be able to disable addons/reset controls and restart to default.

did you reset Thunderbird's option for opening http & https links? I've had this happen multiple times, and resetting those seems to fix it every time, but then it seems to break every time Thunderbird gets a patch, so now I just use "copy link location" on all my machines. BTW, this happened to me on Debian, Q4os, Fedora, and Arch, so I think it's a thunderbird thing, not a distribution thing.

I'll try that....I never had that trouble with Ice Dove. I wonder if using it instead would remedy the problem...?

I don't think they're separate anymore. If you install icedove, it pulls in thunderbird as a dependency, and doesn't from what I remember seeing actually have an icon on it's own anymore.

Also, I decided to see if restting the preference still fixes, and at least on my desktop, it did not fix it anymore.

I tried using config editor in Thunderbird,resetting network.protocol-handler.app.http ,as Mozilla suggested,...nothing. How do i get "Open Link in Browser" to function...? I would just use it,..but it doesn't work either. I tried resetting the preferences also....nothing worked.

It must be a mozilla gorilla issue - had the same TB issue yesterday with a fresh install - see Dumb Pills anecdote
Even after a dictionery d/l, the Swedes still persisted .... overnight it corrected it self, but now its in FF ...
Must be the pesky CIA/NSA/Google/Apple/Amazon/Fakebook crowd trying to sell more pizza

I would simply use the mozilla-gorilla site, ride herd over there for help - they are very very good

It would be a great pity as TB is probably one of the world's only decent email client programs that simply works

I managed to solve the problem on my friends machine by uninstalling Thunderbird (settings and account will remain) and also I removed Firefox (He also had latest Firefox) but that was not "properly" installed as it was downloaded, extracted and then a link was created on his desktop. I then installed (after reboot to ensure system cleanliness) Thunderbird (standard version from Debian repo) and also Firefox-esr (again from Debian standard repo) and after a reboot (may not be needed but it's a habit of mine) everything was working as it should. I had made a couple of adjustments to various config files which I reverted before the removal/re-installation process, but it did solve his problem (links not opening). I will have to say he did have a couple of other issues that were related to old versions of packages that were still on his system (Debian Stretch installed when it was "testing") and they may also have had some effect in the problem starting, but I removed them after I sorted out the link problem.

Important difference between Thunderbird and the Thunderbird Mozilla Binary is that stock Debian Tbird is revamped from Icedove.

So, it stores the config in .icedove with a symlink from .thunderbird - as opposed to the Mozilla Binary version which stores in .thunderbird itself.

This was a "clean" or new install on a HP Pavilion. Everything worked fine,till I tried the Nautopolis add on. This is when it quit working. Remember awhile back I made a comment " If it's working, just leave it alone"....I should have heeded my own advice....Ugh...! Thanks for all the input. I'll research it more,and see if I can find a "fix". This is irritating..

I tried quite a few workarounds over a period of a couple of weeks (working remotely when we were both free) and this was the way I found to resolve it completely. And irritating is probably an understatement, especially when you need to follow an important link.

I can only go by my recent experience and that involves all the steps I noted in my previous post, reboots in between the different sections were done to ensure no remaining configurations were resident in memory and you might not need to do them, I can't really say for sure if it made a difference it's just something I started doing a long time ago after having a few issues with settings being held in memory and causing problems with a re-install.
If you install Icedove I noticed it depends on Thunderbird, so I don't think it really matters, but I would use Thunderbird.

I just tried that...actually went back in prior posts...selected Firefox....tried it.....still no go.....configured all network protocol-handler.modes as per Mozilla for fix....nothing...this is a real glitch....

One thing I noticed when troubleshooting was if you clicked a link in an email and nothing happened and then click it again the cpu activity started to rise and on a few occasions i had a pop-up saying that Thunderbird was already running as if I had tried to start it again, are you getting anything like that happening on your machine?
