Keyboard support

I installed Q4OS on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-W4. It works well but the OS does not recognize the unique 83 key Panasonic keyboard.  I have additional CF-W4 laptops that I would like to convert to Q4OS but I need a solution that will give me full keyboard functionality. Can anyone help?  You can PM me if you need an image of the keyboard.

Thanks

Re: Keyboard support

Hi - welcome to the forum.

Is it a question of the keyboard not working at all or is it a key mapping issue?

Re: Keyboard support

Thank you for your interest.

The keyboard works after installation.

However the installation triggers a "Function" key that to allow certain alphabetic keys to serve as a numerical keyboard.  The keys that are affected are j, k, l, ;, u, i, o, p, 7, 8, 9 and 0.  There may be others as well.

Consequently, after installation of Q4OS typing any of thee keys results in a number and not the intended letter.  For instance, typing my name (Ken) results in "2en". Typing  "open"" would come out as "6-en".  Pressing the function key will result in the correct letter but that is not a feasible alternative.  I also lose the functionality of the Shift key for capitals.

Since I posted this inquiry I have experimented with other Ubuntu based operating systems.  Each has a "Discover Keyboard Layout" in the installation process. I have used this option resulting in a working keyboard but lost the use of the "Function" key. No big deal since there are ways to work around those functions.

Unfortunately this keyboard discovery process is not yet included in Q4.

@Pantera
You only need to turn 'NumLock' off, please see https://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#system.2

Re: Keyboard support

Thanks team!  I owe you an adult beverage.

It was actually simpler than changing a setting.  Once Q4OS was installed I pointed my right index finger at the NumLock key, pressed it and voila! Problem solved.

Thanks
