I revived an old Vista laptop last year with G4OS. In that time there have been no issues with running the system...unlike Ubuntu which seemed to fail at least once a week. So, as a new member of this forum you might find me asking for assistance to do something clever rather than just access useful sites via Chrome or Firefox. Cheers!

Welcome to the forums! G4OS? Are you using Orion 1.8.8 or Scorpion 2.4? Ive had few issues with Ubuntu Mate but prefer Q4OS because of its speed and lighter resource usage.
We're always here to answer questions with a variety of experiences amongst our members.

Always loved KDE3.5 [Trinity] - it simply rocked as a production machine
It was fast. efficient, stable, beautiful - used PCLOS, Mini Me, etc, for eons
Hated KDE4 - slow, ugly, unstable - much like Vista - KDE took all of MS dumb-pills
Hate Ubuntu/Mint even more - what else from a paranoid African pygmy living in Ireland
Q4OS is in a league of its own .. great job, guys & gals

I actually use both TDE and XFCE with Q4OS and enjoy both. Mint is excellent but wanted something a bit lighter and more windows like with low resource usage. Scorpion 2.4 is a very nice release. I also still enjoy KDE 5 but agree as I really liked KDE 3.5 from my Mepis days so Q4OS was a natural.
Ive been leaning a lot more toward Debian based distros these days.

You are NOT right! Linux Mint is a BEST distro for novice users for now! Q4OS is great, but is designed for more experienced users - NOT for complete newbies! Still, I must admit, that Q4OS has the most friendliest community I have ever seen!

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502 If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Agree Rademes, Linux Mint is the best distro for newbies/beginners by far. Q4OS you have to have some experience to be able to work with it.
