Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

So, on every system I've tried q4os on, kmix-trinity doesn't actually do anything.  you can adjust levels to your hearts content, but it doesn't actually change the volume, so I've been using pasystray (which DOES change the volume when paired with pavucontrol).  But I'm tired of having 2 volume icons, so I set kmix-trinity to not show in the tray, and unchecked autostart, but now it pops up (as in - full gui) on every login.  How can I simply prevent it from running in it's entirety, since for some reason it's set as a dependency for like 3/4 of the system so can't be uninstalled?

Nevermind, turned back on autostart, turned back off autostart, and NOW it's listening to the settings.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

Havent had any issues with kmix-trinity so far both with laptops and desktops.  Its set to Pulseaudio and adjusts fine. Occasionally after an install its muted, one click and done.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

Yeah, doesn't actually change pulseaudio volume on my machines, but IMO, not really an issue since pasystray works fantastic, and integrates just fine in the system tray.  Even if it did work, I'm not sure I'd use it, since I'd still need to use pavucontrol to change between my onboard sound and bluetooth, so it'd just be eaiser anyway to use pasystray.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

I was watching some anime tonight and adjusted volume thru kmix with no issues.  Same with my music files, no issues.  Yours doesnt work?

Just went over to Youtube and picked a music file and adjusted volume with kmix, no issues.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

It might be because I have so many audio sync's set up (I have onboard sound + 6 bluetooth devices set up).  But no, doesn't actually do anything to the volume on my system.  I seem to recall that once upon a time it did on my original q4os system (the e5430), but it's never worked on my E5250, E7450, or this T430.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

Interesting, but I have to say the one time it did happen to me was with Zorin 12 Lite as the audio icon didnt work and had to install just as you did the Pulseaudio apps and that worked fine.  Theyve fixed that since.

Maybe the devs need to take a look at this?

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

It might be worth them looking at it if others have the issue.  For me, I wouldn't really want to fix it unless kmix was updated to be able to also change the default pulseaudio audio sync, since even if I was using kmix, I'd have to launch pavucontrol when I wanted to switch to one of my bluetooth headsets or speakers.  So for me, it not working just made me decide to get rid of it sooner than I would have otherwise.

On a completely separate tangent, I actually have bumblebee working now.  I was reading up on Debian's documentation, and you can do bumblebee (which uses the open source Nvidia drivers) or bumble-nvidia (which uses the proprietary drivers).  Once I installed bumblebee instead of bumble-nvidia, I now have a working Optimus setup.  Not sure if I'll leave it enabled or not, although I haven't seen THAT much less battery life, it definitely isn't QUITE as good as running pure IGP.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

I understand, its not really worth it for you as your needs are different. They may want to check to see if there is any underlying problem so at least the volume works if nothing else.  I dont use Bluetooth at all so wouldnt have noticed any issues.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

About 2 years ago I started using bluetooth, and now i have 3 bluetooth headsets (1 mostly only for the phone, 1 mostly for the gym, and 1 that doesn't sound that great but if my wife's trying to do something) and 3 bluetooth speakers (2 little ones that suck and a big one that actually has FANTASTIC sound).  I use it constantly nowadays.  I will admit the Bluetooth 3.0 on this laptop is...less than stellar, after having gotten used to Bluetooth 4.x on my other laptops, but becuase Lenovo whitelists their bios, I can't put a newer chip in.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

All my sound needs are related to gaming or listening to music so Bluetooth really doesnt meet my needs. I use high end Bose headphones and Altec Lansing speaker setup for my gaming which both sound great.  My laptops are for work related needs and clients so i really dont have a need for Bluetooth.

I came out of an era where Bluetooth was a pain and was being used to hack into systems so I just got out of the habit of using it.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

I like to listen to music while showering so I need the bluetooth, and like to listen to music sometimes while my wife's doing something, so I'm either tied to my desk via a cable or I have to use bluetooth.  Also I do use the cheap bluetooth headset sometimes for gaming simply because it has a built in mic also, so I can use Discord to talk to the game dev's instead of just IM'ing them.

I do have a high end USB headset for REAL gaming, but don't like being tied to the cable, so for just quick testing or just chatting while I test single player stuff, bluetooth works fine.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

My other headset has a mic for gaming but I use wireless headphones at times but they never have the sound quality as good as my wired Bose headphones.

I prefer wired mice/kb/headphones and speakers most of the time.  I dont use Wifi that much but i live in a condo and there are some issues being in close quarters. I stick to a wired internet connection most of the time.  Listen to music in the shower, that sounds like fun!

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

Yeah, I set up my laptop with one of various hard drives that has all my music on (I keep it backed up on 3 hard drives and my phone, it's the ONLY thing I back up religioiusly), and then take one of the bluetooth speakers and set up on the counter in the bathroom.  I do tend to like to shower longer because of it.  Sometimes annoys my wife...but then, she takes eternal showers without music...so IMO she has no right to complain.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

LOL! Ill; have to try listening to music in the shower. Living in a condo Im  a bit more conscious of the neighbors and trying to be a good one myself.

My desktop has all my music files as I tend to listen to it more in my room and pull out what I need if i want to take it with me on the laptop.

Ive still got a couple of old MP3 players I use when I exercise outdoors.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

I use my phone with my good bluetooth speaker when working out.  Mostly I exercise in a gym since there's a gym we get corporate discounts at just down the street from where I work, and with the location, I have to leave at like 5 AM to avoid traffic, so I leave at 5 AM and go to the gym.  I still have traffic on the way home, but at least this way I have a pleasant drive in, even if it's way to early in the day.

Re: Prevent kmix-trinity from running?

I dont use a smartphone as my job is far too rough for it to survive(destroyed 3). I use a military spec phone so I dont listen to music on it plus  my job doesnt really allow for that, maintenance manager.

When I can use it I like something compact, small but has good sound quality. The MP3 players offer all of that.

Gees 5am, ouch glad its you and not me.....with on call/emergencies at times I prefer to keep my hours as sane as possible.
