Control screen brightness with mouse

Discovered this quite by accident so thought I'd share it.

I use TDEPowersave to handle screen blanking etc and so there is an icon in the system tray.

Hover the mouse pointer over the icon and the scroll wheel alters the screen brightness!

How cool is that!!!

Nice tip bin, that is particularly useful to me as my Fn buttons for brightness don't seem to be working. Thanks

This feature does not work on every PC!
I installed Q4OS on my Gateway laptop about a month ago and not only that feature didn't work, but also I wasn't able to adjust the brightness at all even through the control Panel and TDE Powersave or the keyboard! However, it works on my old hp laptop just fine.
In order to rectify this problem I had to add the following to my grub file in (/etc/default/grub).  [splash acpi_backlight=vendor]
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor loglevel=3 TERM=dumb"
of course since this is a system configuration file you need to do this using sudo. I saved the file and ran "sudo update-gurb". After restart I was able to adjust the brightness.

Thanks for the info diyako, I'm wondering also if this is possibly down to your machine not being very old and it might have worked with the newer kernel from the backports repository. I only mention this as it could be a kernel fix that has not been included in the stable kernel (it only receives security updates to maintain stability). I have to use the newer kernel with my latest laptop otherwise I have many issues.
But the main thing is that it can be fixed quite easily, thanks again .

Ill have to try your fix diyako, it indeed doesnt work on all pcs.
Ill add an additional feature as you can also hold the mouse over the sound icon and use the scroll wheel to raise or lower the volume.
