Re: installation screen

OK, good suggestion, but you will have to guide / instruct me.
This Scorpion / Debian thing is brand-new to me. Still trying to find my way here.

As the whole < install-thing > was done on my AMD Desktop , I went to my Lenovo Laptop, downloaded again...installed again.........and ----> same results

Re: installation screen

Debian is one of the best known/most popular Linux distributions and you could try downloading it and installing it to see if the same issue occurs.

www.debian.org

Q4OS is based on Debian 9.2 but presently Debian is on version 9.3

We have a number of Debian users here onsite that can help you such as Dai_trying and tlmiller76.

Re: installation screen

Appears to be specific to Q4OS installer, so the devs will have to take a look at it.

Re: installation screen

We are going to investigate this issue, but we are still not able to reproduce it.

@witloof
Are you using 'Live media' or 'Install media' ? It would be also helpful, if you would provide a step by step instructions to reproduce it and eventually a screenshot.

How exactly did you instruct the installer to be loaded into RAM ?

Re: installation screen

OK

I am going to do my best to be 100% accurate with my language .
Sometimes people write things and < assume > the receiving party knows what < I / we > mean.

I am going to give every main step a number , and every number may have a, b, c,  etc

Also, I am going to follow each and every step of my own instructions as I type them

OK, here we go......................................

01--I am using my old OS ( Pclos ) for convenience, for time being !
02--Go to Q4OS download page and click < Downloads > .
03--Locate < Q4OS Scorpion - 64bit / x64 ... 582 MBytes ... setup guide >
04--Click and mark for download....skip payment for now...your download will star in 5 seconds
05--The ISO to be downloaded is not < r2> anymore, but a new one <r3>,..... click download......
06--Now I take my USB stick and format it, use a normal < format to ext4 > command.
07--a) Now I copy the downloaded ISO to my USB stick using < ddcopy > , (used in pclos by every one).
       b) On previous occasion, I also have downloaded the ISO from within a Q4OS installation
       and have used << sudo cp q4os-2.4-x64.r2.iso /dev/sdc >> .
08--After the copy to USB is complete, I pull out my USB stick, take a 90 degree turn to the left and plug it
in my Laptop. My laptop usually has a LAN cable plugged in (and Yes, it has working wireless )
09--I reboot.....hit F12.....choose < USB HD : Toshiba > and hit Enter
10--Now I am looking at a Blue Screen with first line.....Live Media.
11--I take the first entry, ......Q4OS Live......hit Enter
12..Many white lines on a black screen rolling down   :-)
13--Click OK on first Pop-up on a blue screen....next popup top left : Mounting.........
14--Now I find the install icon bottom left
15--Double click on it.......
17--a) Now I see a screen with Language and Country
       b) At the top there is a big blue icon with 4 little squares next to it, instead text ( also above it )
18--I choose my language , English
19--If I want to carry on, I will have to grab the top blue panel with the mouse pointer,
and move it to the left.... and once more....now we see the Back/Forward button
20--Move back to the left of the install screen , and click:Quit, then click Yes
Again, the text in the window is unreadable
21--Now, pull out the cable and click the install icon again........>>.....All is normal again
21--click Quit, then Yes
22--plug in the LAN cable again and click install icon
23--((Now read carefully)) - 'Sometimes' you see the bad screen immediately, 'sometimes' you have
to do it 2 times.   >>>> All depends on how you start

That's it. I have done the above with the new ISO, posted today, with same results as before.
I also tested, today, with the new r3 iso on my wife's laptop, with same results

Although this bug ( ? ) doesn't affect the installation nor the good working of the OS, a 'b' is still a 'b'
Any more questions are welcome

This was Live Media, so....select q4os live and hit enter

As for a screenshot.....I wish I could.
I do not have a camera or smart phone
And make a snapshot of a setup screen in RAM....I don't have a clue

Re: installation screen

@witloof
Thanks for the detailed report. Please, plug the ethernet cable in, and run the following command from terminal:
$ ( sudo live-installer 2>&1 ) | tee /tmp/li.log
quit installation screen and attach the '/tmp/li.log' file here to analyze.

To take a screenshot just press 'PrintScreen' key, next click on a free space of the desktop and press 'ctrl+v' to paste the image on the desktop. You can then attach the screenshot file here by 'Post reply' > 'Attachment' > 'Choose file'

Re: installation screen

We are now able to reproduce the issue and can confirm a bug in live-installer. It's not hardware related and it's caused by incorrect translations for some languages. We have added a new bug into our bugtracker, it will be handled as soon as possible.

Thank you for the detailed and helpful reporting.
