files with .esh extention

I found on this forum a reference to Palemoon, which points to Github.
Those file have a .esh extention
As I never have seen this, I would like to be informed as how to install these.

Either a link to.....or....explanation/instruction will do
Thanks

Re: files with .esh extention

Essentially an esh file is a bit like an all in one installer. It uses dash to execute a script which will install software, add repositories etc etc all in one. It's a bit like a windows .exe file in some ways.

If you look on the Q4OS downloads page towards the bottom there are links to .esh installers - these are what you see when you use the Software Centre.

If you want to install Palemoon go to https://software.opensuse.org/download. … e=palemoon

I have not tried the exact method they provide, For Scorpion I just add this line to my sources.list then download and install the key per their instructions.:-

deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stevenpusser/Debian_9.0/ /

You can do this by doing

sudo kwrite /etc/apt/sources.list then copy/paste the line above - save and exit

Download and add the key exactly as they describe - it will land in your /home

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install palemoon

As with all software no matter the os - always be wary of installers from outside the normal repository structure. Steven Pusser is a well known maintainer so you've no worries there.

You can also go to https://linux.palemoon.org for more info .

I have to say though that Firefox 57 available for Q4OS is a far faster and lighter browser than PaleMoon is presently.

Re: files with .esh extention

@ bin

Thanks a lot.
I will be busy with that today and tomorrow

@ crosscourt

Thanks. I am aware of the differences.
For < time being >, I prefer Palemoon.
Reason is that I have my  < .moonchild productions > folder in a different partition and I link to it from my /home folder
Using this, all my settings and addons are still working like last year = zero time/effort=comfort
As I said, for time being....

@bin
Thanks again, but I ran into websites which I don't know how to handle ( yet ).
I will try this approach later on ( as it has certain benefits & it's on my todo list) , but for now, I used the pre-compiled versions provided by the Q4OS team/devs on that other website.
