Re: [SOLVED] Cannot boot image T430

Most of the time now if its a motherboard issue and serious they will replace the whole system and not bother with repair if its on warranty.
The cost of laptops has dropped so much that most people will just buy another laptop given the prices.
I worked on the old IBM laptops and really liked the original Thinkpad. Ive worked on a lot of Dell laptops over the years but given my age thats over quite a stretch of years.  Recently working on laptops definitely wants make me put a gun to my head. The designs have gotten terrible and difficult to work on, but I give Dell kudos as my recent experiences have been quite good.

Very impressed with the design of their Optiplex series.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot boot image T430

Agreed - modern laptops are just vile - hate the chiclet keboards, hate the letterbox display, hate all the UEFI stuff plus cheap and nasty build quality. I worked in Enterprise environment as purchaser and support/build bloke for 150 users and played with just about everything on the market at the time. My IBM experience was however limited to much old Thinkpads - back in the T30 , WARP 3 etc times - real bricks but they just went on and on - hence the interest today. Agreed HP can be monsters with linux!!  I've been impressed with older Acers I've come across on my travels too.
Dell I like apart from the big lumpy keyboards.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot boot image T430

I had some older IBM Thinkpads that went thru a fire and I was still able to get them up and running back in 2006.  Dells arent perfect but I find them the best overall compromise of features, design, speed and compatibility.
