reverting back to Windows only

If you have Q4OS installed along side Windows 7 and decide to revert to logging on to Windows only, is there a complicated task of re-configuring the boot menu?

Re: reverting back to Windows only

Depends.  Installed as MBR or UEFI?

Re: reverting back to Windows only

You should be able to use your machines UEFI setup to set windows as the first option in the boot order, that way you could completely remove any other OS's on the machine without any problems. But remember if you do this you would want to remove the other OS boot entry too (again in UEFI setup).

Re: reverting back to Windows only

@cledward : Somewhere I have how to do that.  There's a DOS style utility to run.  I will post if I can find it.

Re: reverting back to Windows only

Found my notes, all a little dim & distant when I was last playing with Linux a year or three back.  ISTR that Grub pretty much messed things up and whilst I had followed some instructions, they didn't work.  I had to boot off an Operating System Load disc.

Then my notes say "to return multi-boot to single boot, run FIXBOOT followed by FIXMBR", but afaict they don't exist on Win 7.  Not sure if I got them off the MS site, or whether they are just XP commands.

This and other sites have some info: www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-repair-the-mbr-on-windows-7

Hope you can figure it out

Re: reverting back to Windows only

All that info is regarding MBR recovery which would not help on a uefi system.

Re: reverting back to Windows only

I concur with Dai as none of what that article is describing is pertinent to UEFI.

Re: reverting back to Windows only

Another option to reset uefi to windows (if your machines uefi settings are not so good) would be to use efibootmgr and simply set your Windows entry to boot first, if you want some specific instruction you could post the output of efibootmgr this will show the current status and give the information required to give you a cut and paste solution.

Re: reverting back to Windows only

How have your results been with efibootmgr as mine have been mixed.

Re: reverting back to Windows only

Mine have been pretty good, I have used it to re-order and remove entries without issue, and to be honest I much prefer using UEFI rather than MBR systems, it allows multi-booting without systems fighting over who controls the bootloader.

Re: reverting back to Windows only

Same here as I prefer UEFI as well.
