Tried to install backuppc from Synaptic.
Synaptic has a greened "installed" indication for the program, but it doesn't appear anywhere in menus, searches etc nor from the terminal
At the end of install I had the message:
"W: Download is performed unsandboxed as root as file '/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_sh' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)"
which is presumably the problem
Any ideas? Thx in advance

Thanks for reporting, however we are not able to reproduce the message. Installing of 'backuppc' using Synaptic went fine here. Please describe the issue in more detail for us to be able to reproduce it, a screenshot would be helpful too. How exactly did the message look like ? A dialog or terminal output ?

The message in post #1 was a cut and paste, so exactly as output. It was a dialog box as far as I can remember but also echoed in the script window iirc.
I fully uninstalled it, then quit Synaptic, then opened Synaptic again and installed again. No error message this time but the program has not found its way into the program menu (either by searching or under New Programs) and in Terminal window by typing backuppc at the prompt I get "command not found"
Screen shots attached. (can't find out how to load multiple files in one post)

Ah, I see, it uses a browser interface. Sorry, missed that !
And doesn't look to be at all what I need.

All screenshots look quite normal, no serious issue or error.

Yes, it's a bit glitchy at the moment, but possible. You can attach one file, submit the post and then edit the post and add next attachment. Repeat editing as many times as needed.
