I was away from Q4OS for many months and decided to try it again (5.8 Aquarius Plasma). I wanted to install dual boot with Win11 on a small laptop (i5 w/ 8gb/512gb). I have a problem with Grub, in that Grub_Timeout=0 and I wanted it changed to 8. Since I got no menu, I used ESC to boot into Q4OS. Once booted, these are my steps:
Open file manager Dolphin; Change to root /; open /etc/default/grub; make needed changes; save the file.
After doing this, from terminal, I used: sudo update-grub.
Next, I am not ready for Q4OS to be my default choice, instead I wanted Windows. Back to edit Grub again. This time changing Grub_Default=3 to make Windows my primary boot choice. Save the file, and run Sudo Update-Grub.
My vision is getting poor. I wanted my cursor both larger and high contrast. Using the Windows Key (what is this called in Linux?) and typing Cursor; brought me to the screen for making changes.
Next I wanted to install the program Nicotine+ but it is not in the list of software. I found it is available on both Flatpak and Snap. I am running in a 100gb partition so which would take less space? A project for another day. Is there a way to remove the password when you return to the computer? On Windows, we have desktop shortcuts. What are these called in Linux and how do I make one? I cannot find how to run Nicotine (but I know it is installed).
My impression this time is more favorable than my first attempt at Q4OS. I continue to try and learn. Be gentle to me as I struggle a bit with dementia. Thanks for reading.

If you mean you want to be automatically connected to your session, follow this procedure (terms translated from French, not sure they are the exact terms in English):
- go to "System Settings"
- choose "Startup & Shutdown"
- select "Connection Screen SSDM"
- go to "Advanced" tab
- check the box "Connect automatically" and select user account and desktop.
- Click the "Apply" button

With Q4OS 4 / Plasma (probably the same with Q4OS 5 & 6):
right-click on your desktop > Create New, select Link to file/folder or Link to an application and fill in the fields in the dialog box.
