I have a miserable history with my Dell Latitude 7340, and gave up on Windows 10/11 and switched to Debian 12. I really want to stick with Linux, preferably Debian or Unbuntu, but very frustrated with the performance and never ending issues with it freezing up, and weird errors when i connect another screen and how being on Youtube makes it eventually freeze up. I realize that Linux isnt windws so i was VERY EXCITED when i stumbled upon Q40S while exploring Kubuntu, Why am i posting this? I have decided i am going to install a new OS no matter what due to all the issues, as i have spent way too much troubleshooting. I just want to make sure, that through other user's experience, maybe through the forum to overcome issues like i have experienced. I have done all the diagnostics on this current install, and nothing really comes up with the disk etc..so it was probably the installation, so i am left with the install but i woiuld like to try something different. I am not that experienced and Debian 12 was probably way too advanced for a former frustrated windows user who still runs a few windows apps on Linux as well. I look forward to any comments,

Intels 13th and 14th gen cpus had many issues in WindowsLinux. A microcode patch was released last year I believe in October to help the issues. Its not the OS thats the issue, and I would look to see if the microcode patch intel-microcode is installed by looking in Synaptic package manager. If your device is capable you can also undervolt your cpu slightly to gain additional stability. You might research the 13th gen issues that didnt just involve the higher end cpus in that line for additional fixes.
Both the 1335u and the 17 1365u have had reports of instability, freezing and performance drops.
If you purchased this laptop and its still on warranty Id contact them immediately and see what they can do.
Welcome to the Q4OS forums!

i am so sorry for the late reply. I just saw it...thanks for following up. i am going to get rid of debian 12 and hope for the best with this new install once i get time to figure it all out...every day something else doesnt work. But before anything, i will contact Dell as my support expires in August. Thanks again.................Actually just got off the phone with Dell and he told me that that the issue described above with the 13th and 14th gen cpus were with Desktop processors and not Laptop, or so he says...no idea! Thanks

That was a lie from Dell but Im not surprise. Friend of mine just got his 13th gen laptop replaced by Dell because it had issues.
Hope you get it worked out. I can say that Ive had no issues with Q4OS based on Debian 12 with my 11th/12th gen Intel CPUs.

When he told me it was desktops only...i was thinking...sure thing pal...but what can i do. i am excited about installing this software vs debian 12, it has not been great. I have zorin os on another pc, and the support for nvidia is not great, and i watched an install and review video today, and i must say i was pleasantly surprised about both. The only confusing thing is the choice for installs, as he demonstrator installed the live version, which i assumed would be running off a usb but he actually installed it. In any event, i think i wiill do it tomorrow once i back up everything, which isnt much.

The thing about Debian is, a lot of distros are based on it, including Zorin OS as its based on Ubuntu(which is based on Debian).
Live media is for running a distro without having to install it, just to see of it will work. The live media also allows you to install the distro if you choose. Live media isnt persistent even if youre running it off a USB, so you have to install it for settings and data to be saved within the OS.
Q4OS has live media for both the Trinity and Plasma desktops available on the sites front page.

Buddy, i just finished installing....so much better already, i cannot begin to tell you. The software store is unbelievable, and it seems so much more responsive than before. I have not tried tstrinity yet, just using kde, but so far so good...i will have to finish up but my first thirty minutes have been a revelation...i decided to test mulitple desktops...no errors, no lagging, no freezing...unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use KDE with Q4OS as I prefer how it runs, and its incredible what you can do with customization features.

It gets better...although, i should temper with the fact brave froze one time for some reason, and the installation of software was kind of funky, where i installed a bunch and then it was not installed...maybe because i didnt launch it, not sure. Anyways, the coup de grace was the fact i have used an ssh/scp client in the past called snowflake and i kind of like it..so i was going to download it outside of the software store until i came across Muon, which looks very similar, in fact it is a knockoff, and they didnt even bother to change the name when you launch it.lolllllllllll so i am set. I am hopeful things dont go crap as i continue as it really did with the debian 12 as well as my other computer (to a lesser extent) with Zorin OS. I am going to install this software on this next as the Nvidia drivers do not work as well as dual screens. I set up the Windows XP theme...although, its not that noticeable, but it is kind of fun to be able to do the customization as you mentioned... My last bastian will be to install a couple of those windows programs, that i need to have, and thats it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before, i forget, i installed ths ai program called Newelle and connected to grok or something, i cannot recall, but so far so good as well. i am very pleased in making this change so far...and i am confident that it will continue.

Muon use to be a popular package manager, very similar to Synaptic. Both work really well but most people either use the package managers or Flatpaks from software centers for their apps. I don't install that many apps from outside those sources any more.
