Setting up a printer

I would appreciate advice on setting up a printer on my aged Samsung netbook.
I keep getting a CUPS server error.
Many thanks

Re: Setting up a printer

What version of Q4OS are you using? What desktop profile are you using?  What is the model of your Samsung netbook?
What is the model of the printer you are trying to install?

Typically Q4OS auto detects printers most of the time, assuming system-config-printer/printer-driver-all packages are installed.

Re: Setting up a printer

Hello, thank you for your quick response.

This is the first time I have used Q4OS, so somewhat out of my depth! In answer to your questions

Q4OS 5.8 Aquarius for 32bit
Samsung netbook NP-N140
Canon TR4600 series

I am using the Full Featured Desktop.
I am not sure how to check if system-config-printer/printer-driver-all packages are installed.

Your guidance will be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Re: Setting up a printer

Hello
Thanks for your help.
Not knowing what I was doing but, I had a poke around in the Synaptic packages and have managed to get my printer running.

Re: Setting up a printer

Nice work!  For those who arent as familiar with Linux, Synaptic really helps out, making things much simpler. Let us know if you have any other issues.
