Multiple monitors not working

Enjoy your meal!

Since I've already received very quick and effective help here after days of searching, I'm trying again.

I'm trying to run a total of three monitors on an HP 8200 with two graphics cards.
In the live version of Q4OS-Aqua and before the installation, all three devices work as they should. (see attachments)
After installing the "basics," two are no longer recognized at all.
I don't know the exact name of the graphics card by heart. (see attachments)
Intel is onboard and still works via VGA.

Which modules or drivers do I need to download or install to get both cards working?
They have to be there, otherwise the live system wouldn't work either?!

Thanks a lot for your help!

Re: Multiple monitors not working

Your screen capture shows you have an AMD Radeon HD 6570.
You could compare the result of this command (open a terminal, type it and press Enter), from a live Q4OS and from the installed Q4OS: `apt search radeon`.
If you see one or more packages installed in the live Q4OS which are not installed in the installed Q4OS, you could try to install them and see what happens.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

I see that among the listed packages, all those that were installed for Q4OS live are also installed in your Q4OS Basic setup, so my idea was not the good one.
Difficult for me to help further unfortunately, I never used a computer with two graphics cards.
You could try another comparison, with the command `inxi -Fxxx`, and post both results, maybe someone will be able to detect what the problem can be...
Sorry.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

HP 8200 i5 2400 cpu I believe with Intel HD graphics 2000.  Not that it cant be done but using two different graphics cards is more difficult. If you had two Radeon HD 6570 graphics cards this would be a lot easier or a graphics card that directly supports three monitors. Radeon cards would be the better choice due to drivers and older cards will work fine as you saw with the HD 6570.  Im sorry I dont have an answer for you but to get it running reliably will require more effort than I think is in your best interest. Maybe finding thru research a single card that can offer you what you need.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

Thanks, I've already noticed that it's going to be very difficult...

i7 with these two cards. Both at the same time, because all three monitors on one don't work in Windows.
There's pop_os, for example, and this combination works there, but I don't like it.

My only problem is, why do all three monitors work as they should in the live version? What's being done differently? If I knew that, maybe that would be the solution?!

Re: Multiple monitors not working

It appears to be using the same drivers for live as for basic from what I see except the basic install has some added features for the graphics card.
Firmware is 20230210-5
Amd driver  23.0.0-1
wrapper   1.19.1.0-3

Used on both live/basic, and the added features in basic wouldnt cause any issues as they are hardware specific such as the laptop support.

The fact that PopOS worked means that Ubuntu based distros do something different from Debian. You might want to try another distro like KDE Neon which is Ubuntu based and see if it works. Maybe looking at the drivers being used could give us a clue.

In regards to Windows it supports three monitors on a single video card as long as the card itself supports it, thru drivers. The Radeon HD 6570 doesnt support three monitors regardless of OS.

Yes we see it works under Debian/Q4OS. We have no idea about a solution at the moment, but we definitely take a closer look on this issue and post back asap.

We will make a diff list of Live versus Basic profile.

You could also try to install Q4OS, select Live profile and see what happens. All packages from live media will be cloned to the installed system.

In anyway please report back, if you find anything new. Thanks for reporting.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

Windows and Ubuntu are suitable, but they're workarounds.
The reason I need two cards is because I want to run three monitors, and it works that way.

If the live version can use both graphics cards, then I should be able to activate and use them in the installed basic version as well.
That's exactly what I want to do, but I don't know enough about Linux (yet), and my English isn't that good either...

Re: Multiple monitors not working

On the screen capture from the live session, there is a label box "Gerät" and a drop-down list beside it, then a checkbox "Aktiviert" under them.
They are not present on my system, likely because I have only one monitor.
Are they at least present for you while running the installed system? And if so, are the other monitors "Aktiviert"?

Does unplug/replug the monitors change anything?

Re: Multiple monitors not working

In the live system, this is how it is with the devices and is also activated.
When the installation is complete, it still works, but after a restart, only the VGA is available and there are no more options.

But I remembered something last night: I changed the "monitor priority" to the VGA monitor.
Maybe that's the key point, and I overlooked a setting that keeps the others active too!?

That would be along the lines you're saying, if I understand correctly.
I'll check/test it tomorrow because I'm not home today.

It would be embarrassing, of course, if the problem was in front of the PC ?

It would be helpful, if you could install plain Debian with Plasma DE and post back how it bears for both Live media and installed system. Download Debian live  https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/cu … 64-kde.iso

Thanks!

I'll test my guess and then try your system if it doesn't work.

It might take a while though, because I'm a bit stressed right now, but I'll definitely get back to you!

1. Test Q4OS-Basic installed and no settings changed.
Doesn't work!
After rebooting, only VGA is available.

(I'm almost happy because I'm not the problem after all :-) )

2. Test
Booting Debian-Live (original, English) from the link provided by the Q4OS support team.
All graphics cards and monitors work.

3. Test Installed this Debian version in German.
Everything works.

4. Test Changed display settings.
Main screen to VGA. All monitors and graphics cards work!

(Some TPM errors occur during boot, however)]

Re: Multiple monitors not working

Thanks for report, now you can install Q4OS on top of Debian using this method https://www.q4os.org/dqa017.html and post back if monitors work in Q4OS.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

thx, this is working, but its not the "real" q4os, i think!
grub entry is debian. the desktop looks like debian.
only some elements here from q4os...

If that's the whole solution, I'll just use debian.
thats not, what i want.

but I'll do it again to rule out any mistakes on my part!

update:
debian direktly installed from stick and not from the live-image.
q4os with the sh-installer installed.
all works and bootentrys are correct.
then run 'desktop-profiler' to 'basic'.

it looks like good, i think!

many thanks to all users and q4os-support who helped me!!!

Don't be afraid, this is a full-blown setup of Q4OS too. It features Q4OS repositories and all the Q4OS amenities.

So can you confirm Q4OS works properly using this way of installation ? Do all monitors work ?
