Multi-monitor Issues with TDE

Using a multi-monitor (2) setup with a new install of TDE has been ... “interesting”.

I've tried everything over the last couple days and it's having Lots of issues.
- main problem: the laptop (8 GB RAM) screen gets washed out, high contrast with rezzy image for the background (if using one)
- settings will work at first, and then not
- a 2nd monitor will be outright dropped when logging out and back in
- the laptop screen will even have it's res changed from 1366 x 768 to 1368 x 768 or even 1920 x 1200 (which isn't one of it's options), and it's regular setting is dropped from the choices to reset it
- the task bar, which is on the laptop screen, will suddenly be moved to one of the monitors
- change the settings again and hit Test or Apply, and apps will move off screens, menu bars will become inaccessible, the task bar might even disappear
- sometimes the middle monitor seems to be merging ever-so-slightly on the left side onto the laptop screen.
- other times, when in full screen mode, applications only cover half the screen (won't go to the bottom). Though when not in full-screen, apps can be moved or resized or moved to lower parts of the screen with no problem.
- also, performance is hindered and slower. Even just doing a screenshot and copy / paste will take ~25 - 30 seconds.
- etc, etc.

And I've tried everything to fix / work around it.
- adjusted Layouts, resolutions, brightness and gamma
- setting up a Profile, Save and Activate it, then Enable it to Automatically apply the profile on startup
- log out and back in again, it usually wouldn't remember settings and will often just drop out the 2nd middle monitor altogether
- enable the second monitor, and it may play nice at first, then it'll shortly drop out of that mode and mess it all up
- load the Profile again and hit Activate or Apply, it may or may not work, but then everything goes wonky again with any / all of the issues above

If it's just the laptop screen and the one monitor on the farthest right, everything is just fine.
Suppose if just using that mode, it could be fun to pop into it once in a while. It IS a cool desktop otherwise. smile
So, unless this is a known problem with an easy(ish) fix, will probably just stick with the KDE option.

Re: Multi-monitor Issues with TDE

Its the reason why I use KDE as I simply never had any luck getting it to work with TDE, but maybe some of our more experienced members may have some suggestions.

Re: Multi-monitor Issues with TDE

Thanks CC. Yeah, I think you're right. Being new to all this, probably best to limit the amount of issues, info overload and rabbit holes that have to be dealt with.
Plus the more I poke around in KDE on Q4 (which actually does "just work"), the more I realize how much is available to customize ... pretty awesome! Though I'll try and limit that as well because of course ... time factor, having a life, etc. lol

Re: Multi-monitor Issues with TDE

KDE has  issues at times but what a great product overall, that offers a user a huge number of options to change and customize to your specific needs and likes.

Q4OS is unique, in that they have two DEs that really cover the vast majority of systems out there.

Im retired and I still dont have a life, LOL!!

Hah! That probably explains why there are so many posts on here from you.  big_smile

Thanks for that by the way - sure I'm not the only one that appreciates it.
(Need more emoji icons, couple for thumbs up and beers for cheers.)

... they have two DEs that really cover the vast majority of systems out there.

Considering the above re/ Trinity, and what I just said about time factors ... dare I ask it (lol), I did notice that they also have Cinnamon (which I've tried briefly with Mint and like, but it was "crashy") as another option to install alongside with KDE. Given that Trinity is a fork of KDE (lil bro), how would adding Cinnamon instead work out if it's not as integrated with KDE as TDE is? Have you or anyone else tried that one on Q4?

Aaaand there I go and asked it. Ok, focus, back to work.  smile
