Adding TDE Post Install

Hey Q4 Team,

Loving Q4OS with KDE. Would like to now add TDE and take it for a spin after having already installed the OS (Basic version, KDE) and completed adding a bunch of other programs and theme configurations. A full backup has also been done with FoxClone.

Re/ adding TDE, I get that this is done with the Desktop Profiler > Desktop Environment drop down.
Just click on the Trinity option, pick a Proflie, and then Install, which I had just started the process for. And then a pop-up message appeared that says:

A profile has been already applied for this system.
Previous file: q4os-live        (don't know where that's hiding or what's in it)
If you continue, the selected new profile replaces the previous one and system will be configured accordingly.
Do you want to continue?
Yes, still apply        Cancel

Wait, what? Red Alert. If I'm reading that right, this will not just add the Trinity desktop, but will also reinstall the Basic version of the OS and “replace” (overwrite?) all the changes I've made since the initial install.
Not keen on starting from scratch and having to redo all that work again with application downloading / installing / configurations and themes, etc.
And if i restore from the backup, well ... that doesn't include TDE, so ...
Yeah, that'll be a Cancel.

Questions:

1 - Will adding TDE this way overwrite everything with a Base install for KDE Plasma as well?

2 - Or, since I've UNchecked the Remove superfluous packages option, will everything on the KDE side remain as is and unchanged, but will now also have the option of logging into Trinity?

3 - Checked the Profile Info for what's included. Looks like there are 12 extra Trinity related items in the list compared to the base KDE install, otherwise exactly the same. However ... if KDE does remain unchanged, would those carry through to TDE, or will TDE just be a base install which will need all applications installed and configured for that DE?
If so, fine with that.

4 - I exported the Current Profile, checked the file, and it just shows the list of applications installed from the initial Basic live install.
Am I missing or misunderstanding something ... is there a way of exporting a profile that includes everything added so far, even if it's just the Q4OS Software Center and not the Discover SC?

Sorry if this seems obvious, but is all new to me.
I suspect #2 above is what will happen, but just looking for clarity before proceeding.
Hopefully TDE can be added without affecting the current KDE setup.
Cheers

That means you did apply "Live" profile upon Q4OS installation. We would rather recommend to select the Basic profile for the next run.

To the questions
1. No, it will only add TDE.
2. Yes, everything in Plasma will remain and an option for TDE login will be added into the login screen. However you must uncheck the "Remove superfluous packages" box, please pay attention on that. Otherwise your system could be reconfigured and some packages be removed.
3. You will have all the applications installed available in TDE.
4. You need to take own "Snapshot profile", not to export a system one, please read https://www.q4os.org/dqa016.html custom profiles.

Yes, however keep in mind, you need to uncheck the "Remove superfluous packages" option to achieve that goal.

Re: Adding TDE Post Install

Okay great, that clears up the confusion. Thanks.
Guess I got hung up on the Get vs Export profile, thinking Export would be for the current one I had configured, and that I could use that for Importing a local profile.

Choosing the Software Profile > Export Profile drop-down, a box pops up to save a Desktop Profile to the Documents folder.
And the save box title is “Choose a name to save the Profile to”
Whereas the Software Profile > Get snapshot profile, box pops up to save a profile again.
The title is different this time though, shows: "Choose a new filename to export current status to"

So Export is “saving a profile to ..”
And Get is “exporting to ...”

Anway, yes, did go with the Basic and Unchecked “Remove superfluous pkgs". And we're in and everything is there. Yay!
But after trying it out ... not so yay. This is for a multi-monitor setup, and apparently it doesn't like that. Not at all.
(See separate / new post re/ this issue)

Thanks Q4T
