I have attempted Q4OS several times to install on this older spare HP pc, specs are Amd64X2 5200+ with 4 gb of ram. Tried from Flash drive as well as with a DVD. Same result, it gets to a point where it should load to a desktop if some sort but it either goes blank or a blue screen with either dots or dashes, then freezes or stops for hours, no keyboard or mouse can be used. The network cable is plugged in and I Can see the network card light blinking. After a while the lan goes down, and no other pc has lan access. Wireless still works. tried 3 different drives, one formatted, two others with a clean win 7 installed.
I went to a different PC using one of the same drives, an i5 with 16 gb ram and it seems to be installing flawless so far.

Im guessing its a graphical issue but can you give me the exact model number of your HP pc so we can check the specs.

The model number of the pc is HP Paviion a6228x, prod #GN703AA ans motherboard markings of M2N68-LA, it originally came pre-installed with Vista, it came with 2 gb of memory and I added another 2 for a total of 4gb

Your system uses the Nforce 430 chipset and the Geforce 6150se gpu which is really problematic with newer versions of Linux. Which version of Q4OS did you install?
Its supported but people are still having issues with this hardware and resolving issues isnt guaranteed. If you do some searching online youll see that the situation is really mixed.

My guess is, that it stops early on before installing, because when I shut the PC down and remove the installation media, Windows 7 loads as if nothing happened

My belief is the graphics driver isnt loading. Which version of Q4OS are you using? The most recent 5.7 or the older versions?
The Nouveau driver is the only driver that supports the 6150se as Nvidia stopped support for their drivers with the 4.4 kernel.
Have you tried using live media or are you using an installation media iso?
Whats interesting is both Windows Vista and 7 had issues with both chipset drivers and graphics drivers initially with this motherboard.

I have only tried installing with the iso. The other newer Hp PC I have Q4os 5.7 installed on and working, early on during the installation it came to a screen about the partitions, this older HP screen goes to the either blue or black with dot etc before it reaches that point so it may be waiting on some action by me to proceed but I cannot see it so when I shut the pc down and reboot it goes back to win 7 as if nothing happened.

Try running a live media session and see what happens with your system dont try and install it. As I said youre looking at a 15 year old poorly supported motherboard that even had issues with Windows Vista as I use to own one.

If the live media session doesnt work, we are going to reboot and press esc key many times till Grub screen comes up, then run in failsafe mode.
Failsafe mode uses a generic graphics driver that usually will work.

I tried to download the Trinity 64 iso twice, but Belina etcher program I use to put on flash reports a problem so I opted for the Trinity 64 cd and it seems to be installing flawlessly

Glad its working and honestly Trinity is a better choice for that Nforce system.

It appears hchiper that the Trinity install worked without a problem. It could have been the install media with the KDE version that he used which is why I wanted him to try kive media to avoid as many variables as possible.
