[SOLVED] 32 bit live Q4OS - how can I add Wireless support?

Hi, I have a 32 bit machine and I downloaded q4os for 32 bit from https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … o/download

Live CD worked like a charm but, it does not have any wireless support.

I want to download related debian packages to do :
1) upgrade live OS's "network manager" with the new one that has wireless support and install my wireless antenna's drivers to use my wifi.

Please do not answer me saying or advising "...go and buy a new pc having 64 support, it is cheaper...", this option is not valid for me.

I need help in :
1) Which packages I need to download as .deb file/s?
2) procedural guide : that I need to follow to uninstall the old network manager and install the new one having wireless support (with its all services of course).

( I have a wireless antenna of everest's ewn series and I have an installation CD that includes linux drivers, I think I can install it from there.)

If you guide me to add a wifi support I will be appreciated. Thanks.

Athlon 64 was the first consumer 64bit cpu released in 2003, so dont be surprised when people ask you about upgrading your hardware. 22 years is a long time and 64bit cpus are capable of running 32bit apps.
Read the link the devs provided you.

The download link you mention is for q4os-1.8-i686pae-live.r1.iso, which is Q4OS 1 (Orion)!.

I doubt you can upgrade its network manager with another one.

You'd better try Q4OS 5, which is the latest version, or an earlier one if your hardware doesn't have sufficient resources.
The minimal hardware requirements for Q4OS 5 / Trinity are 350MHz CPU / 256MB RAM / 3GB disk.

Unfortunately I don't have an history of hardware requirement for earlier versions of Q4OS in order to direct you to a suitable version, but anyway you don't give any information about your hardware.

So my suggestion is to try each Q4OS version backwards from the latest until you find one that fits your hardware and hopefully has a network manager that supports WiFi (which was not the case of Q4OS 1 Orion, from what you wrote in your OP).

Nice pickup hchiper as thats quite an old version of Q4OS. I also agree that Q4OS 5 should work fine but no hardware specs were offered by the poster.
Really important that users provide detailed info on the version of Q4OS they are using and their hardware specs so its easier to help solve issues.

Re: [SOLVED] 32 bit live Q4OS - how can I add Wireless support?

in the page "https://www.q4os.org/downloads1.html"

there is a "Q4OS Aquarius, Trinity, install-cd - 32bit / i386 ... 685 MBytes ... setup guide" cd iso image. Is that contains "live" q4os too? Can I use it as a live CD?

No, it's not live media, but install CD only.

Re: [SOLVED] 32 bit live Q4OS - how can I add Wireless support?

Yiou never mentioned what exact hardware you are  using?  Its possible you may have a 64bit cpu and can use the live media for Q4OS.

The last 32bit only cpu sreleased was the Pentium 4 Northwood back in the very early 2000s and the AMD XP K7  so the chances of you having a 64bit cpu are high.

Why are you looking for a live media?

Note that Q4OS live media is not for an everyday usage. Nothing can be saved permanently (no settings, no updates, no installed packages, no documents...). Each time you'll reboot your live media you'll be at the same point as if you use it for the first time.

It is just there for testing purpose.

Why don't you use the install media to make a fresh install on your HD/SSD?

Maybe he wants to test it before installing it?

@crosscourt
I saw too late that he marked his OP as solved, which probably means he gave up his attempts with Q4OS (see post #8).
