Good morning, I installed q4os and everything works perfectly, the Toshiba e-studio2040c printer is recognized automatically, but the prints only come out in colour, even though it is set as black/white in the printer's system settings. on some programs (for example Libreoffice) I can select the color or black/white print type, but even if I select black/white, the print always comes out in color. on other programs, however, the possibility of selecting white/black is disabled (light gray setting not selectable)... what else could I check?
Thank you!!

Hi, I would open a terminal and enter:
sudo system-config-printer
You will need to enter your login password to elevate you to root privileges. This is the best way to add a printer, even if you can access via Settings | Hardware | Printer - something I picked up from PearOS forum years ago. Now you may not have system-config-printer present. My preference for installing packages is Synaptic Package Manager over Discover (I am making an assumption here that you are using KDE (Plasma) and not Trinity Desktop Environment).
Once you have Synaptic Package Manager I would search for 'printer-driver-all' and install this as it will include system-config-pritnter package. On most GNU/Linux systems you have to unlock Printers with your password, only then can you change the properties of the printer. Annoyingly, this appears on recent releasesl of vartous distributins that you can't just change settings at will, you have to go back and change the printer settings again to how you want it setup.

system-config-printer I believe is installed by default in Q4OS KDE so probably not going to help and the printer is being seen, it just doesnt want to print in b/w. It sounds more like a driver issue but not familiar enough with that printer to suggest an alternative.

It is just possible that the paper type choice may be influencing this. Try testing with a small print job and see if changing the paper type - which may be defaulting to Gloss Photo or something like that - makes any difference.
However it may just be that the driverless printing setup doesn't quite know how to handle the printer.
On this page https://www.toshibatec.eu/support/drive … tudio2040c
you will see e-studio linux filter and below that MACPPD
Looking at the contents of the linux filter package I'd be inclined to start off by using the PPD file which you can specify in the printer installation. You're going to have to extract the ppd files from the MAC dmg image files provided.
If that makes no difference then you'll need to dig in to the above mentioned filter package.

Is it possible youre out of toner? That would cause the issue and the settings changes as well.

Take a look at https://www.toshibatec.eu/support/drive … ring=2040c
I would try to install and test the CUPS driver if is is not already installed.

I've looked at that link. The issue is that you can't extract the files if downloaded to the Downloads folder - it needs to be moved to /usr/share and installed from there. Not sure how OP is to do this.

@crosscourt - Sorry, I didn't pay attention to the link bin has mentioned; in fact the one I mentioned targets the same CUPS driver.
@swarfendor437 - I realise that OP dates back from January and was first responded 3 days ago. #marcod81 never came back since his OP... It's not worth trying to help him if he doesn't read our messages. Let's wait for a response from him.

@hchiper- swarfendor437 said there may have been an issue with the download from your link so I just wanted to mention bin's link as well.
Its possible he has figured it out already.
