[Tutorial] Getting AudigyRX Soundblaster to work with Logitech 5.1

I have had various problems getting sound out of the correct speakers of my Logitech z506. I stumbled on a surprise solution, after I had installed most ALSA packages, including QasMixer, QasConfig, and QasHctl. I did not install any ALSA packages linked to OSS or JACK. The solution, surprisingly came from installing Audacious!
If not installed, install Audacious from Discover, then go to:
File | Settings
A new window appears with the heading Audacious Settings.
From the left pane that appears, select the second item down, 'Audio'.
To the right of the selected icon you will see 3 main headings. We only need to refer to the first heading, Output Settings.
Use the Output plug-in: box - use the drop-down arrow and from the available list, select ALSA Output.
In addition to Audacious playing music correctly through all speakers, if you launch a game such as Wesnoth, again the background music will play correctly through all speakers.
Hope this helps!

I installed Audacious from Synaptic package manager but agree with you as Audacious allows for better compatibility with a wider variety of hardware.
