Hi,
I am using Q4OS 4, Plasma, Firefox installed manually from .tar.bz2 file downloaded from the mozilla page and decompressed into /opt/firefox.
When I drag and drop an URL from the Firefox address bar to the desktop, choosing the option "Link here", it creates a .desktop file like this one:
[Desktop Entry]
Icon=text-html
Name=https://www.q4os.org/
Type=Link
URL[$e]=https://www.q4os.org/
When I click on that link, Firefox doesn't load the Internet page; instead it loads a local file:
file:///home/<user>/.cachekde/kioexec/krun/...
Sometimes what seems to be a small splash screen flashes 1/10s before Firefox opens, too fast to see anything.
The file loaded is a raw content of the original page, without layout, with all original links being replaced by links to non-existent local files.
Creating and using a new Firefox profile makes no improvement.
On another computer where I have installed Firefox from Q4OS repositories (sudo apt install... or Software Centre, don't remember which), I don't encounter this issue. The installed version is 114.0 (upgradeable to 115.0). But on this computer, there seem to be no recent version available:
$ get-q4os-version
4.12.1-n1
$ sudo apt update
$ apt list firefox*
firefox-esr-l10n-.../oldstable-security,oldstable-security 102.13.0esr-1~deb11u1 all
...
firefox-esr/oldstable-security 102.13.0esr-1~deb11u1 amd64
Does anyone have an idea on how to solve it if I want to keep using the version of Firefox downloaded from mozilla.org, or at least, have recent version (115.0) available from apt?
Thanks.

Just install Firefox from Q4OS Software centre.

We don't see Firefox sources in your apt sources list. So we would recommend to uninstall all Firefox instances from your system, go to the Software centre and install Firefox. A new source will be added so Firefox can take regular upgrades from repositories.

I feel embarrassed... Before uninstalling as you recommend, I wanted to note how I had made the entries in the app launcher. There, I realized that I had forgotten the %U parameter to the command (screenshot attached). Stupid of me! Now that I have added it, the problem is solved.
Without your advice to uninstall, I would never have looked there.
Thank you.

Never mind, we are glad you solved that In anyway, we recommend installing Firefox from the Software center, it's the best way to get FF "release" with regular updates in Q4OS.
