Starting up with alternative desktop.

Hi all,

I’ve installed Gnome via desktop profiler.
Works great. Gnome version is 3.38.5. Followed the Pop Shell install method for Ubuntu. Works too.
Happy camper here with ‘tiling for dummies’. ?

Only thing is, when booting, the system starts into plasma.
So I have to log out. Choose Gnome for desktop. And log in again.
Is it possible to make an alternative desktop the default?

Re: Starting up with alternative desktop.

You can disable autologin to get the login screen to choose a desktop you want to log in. In Plasma desktop run Q4OS welcome screen and disable autologin feature.

An alternative way would be to edit /etc/sddm.conf config file and specify a desktop environment you want to enable autologin for.

Re: Starting up with alternative desktop.

In Plasma, System settings > Startup > behavior, there you can set default desktop and even display server; X11 or Wayland.
