How to install rekonq browser?

hello

I have downloaded the rekonq browser from sourcefoge. Now I have this file: rekonq-2.4.2.tar.xz

I opened the terminal and tried to install with this 2 commands: sudo apt update   sudo apt install rekonq

but did not work. Before that I watched many videos how to decompress a file or how to install tar.xz but there is always a detail missing in the tutorials which makes it not work. I mean there are almost no videos on q4os on youtube like how to install programs and so on...

I hope you can help me with this. thanks for your patience!

Re: How to install rekonq browser?

That's probably source code for the browser.  Does it have an install.sh file or similar?  If not, then it's source code and would need to be compiled before it could be installed.

Also realize that Rekonq is VERY outdated, as it hasn't had any development (or security patches) since early 2014.

Re: How to install rekonq browser?

Hhmmm ... ???

Rekonq was a lightweight alternative to the Konqueror Browser, if I'm not mistaken. An extremely nice looking internet browser. The features of Rekonq were pretty good for such a lightweight KDE browser. It's only downside was the occasional crash or in rare cases it was a little bit buggy. But Rekonq was a pleasure to use when it was working well.

Now, there's another lightweight KDE browser called Falkon. It's worth researching to see if it is something that you can use on your computer

Re: How to install rekonq browser?

I do not recommend to install Rekonq. It is outdated, so many websites will not work on it correctly or will not work at all.
Personaly I prefer Firefox, because it is actively developed, has nice privacy functions, such as tracking protection, DNS Over HTTPS, pop up window blocking, and it has uBlockOrigin, which can block 99% of ads, and also filters malicious and phishing websites.
But, if you are looking for a lightweight web browser, try Falkon. You can easily install it using Q4OS Software Centre. (attachment)
You could also try Palemoon: https://www.palemoon.org/

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.
