Add Ksnip to Software Centre

I'd like to suggest the addition of Ksnip to Software Center, so it is available to install from there. It's small and has very few dependencies, plus it is a very good screenshot taking app https://github.com/ksnip/ksnip

Re: Add Ksnip to Software Centre

Agreed it is an extremely good version of the Windoes 7 snip tool with nice set of annotation features.

We will consider that option. In any way Ksnip is available from Buster-backports and regular Bullseye repository too.

Yes, it is, not the latest version though. I just think it'd be such a good addition to SC, mostly for newer users who might prefer a GUI approach instead of having to enable backports manually. I've been using Ksnip since it first came out back in 2016 and think it's a wonderful piece of software. smile

The version in backports might not be the latest version, but there are no actual FEATURES it's missing from the latest version, it's simply a few fixes for issues with edge cases in the newer versions.  In terms of features, the version in backports isn't missing anything.

No "actual features"? A "few fixes"? Actually, current version 1.8.1 has some new features and more than a "few fixes".

https://github.com/ksnip/ksnip/releases/tag/v1.8.1

    • Fixed: If file selection is cancelled during ksnip's file open dialog via tray icon, ksnip closes. (#503)
    • Fixed: Cancel on Quit not work when editor is hidden. (#342)
    • Fixed: Canceling rect area selection activates main window. (#521)

    • Fixed: Icons and text boxes not correctly scaled under gnome with hdpi. (#549)
    • Fixed: Window captures include non-transparent border of background on Gnome. (#460)
    • Fixed: Annotating hidpi image downscales the result after being saved. (#172)
    • Fixed kImageAnnotator: Brazilian Portuguese translation not loaded. (#176)
    • Fixed kImageAnnotator: error: control reaches end of non-void function. (#177)
    • Fixed kImageAnnotator: Cursor in Text tool have too bad visibility. (#184)
    • Fixed kImageAnnotator: bumped SONAME without name change. (#185)
    • Fixed kImageAnnotator: Entering multiple characters at once moves the text cursor only for one character. (#186)
    • Fixed kImageAnnotator: Activating context menu while drawing item leaves item in error state. (#196)
    • Fixed kImageAnnotator: Icons not scaled on gnome with hdpi enabled. (#201)
    • Fixed kImageAnnotator: Text/Number Pointer and Text/Number Arrow don't inherit Text/Number Font in Settings. (#208)

And for the record, I do believe it doesn't really matter whether you use backports' or GitHub's; they will both get the job done just fine, however, having the latest is nicer smile that's the one I've always used anyway so... I only mentioned it because it is what it is.

Re: Add Ksnip to Software Centre

2 features, neither of which is a major feature, just extremely minor improvements.

19 fixes, most of which are extremely minor and won't be seen by most users due to their limited scope of when they happen.

Yes.  No ACTUAL features and a few fixes.  That's exactly right.
