Q4OS 3.13-r1 Trinity doesn't play well with Vivaldi browser.

I just started using Q4OS 3.13-r1, which I downloaded today. Unfortunately, my preferred browser, Vivaldi, is unusable. For some reason, there is no address bar, and I have two search bars. Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions? I have looked at the Vivaldi prefs and they are as they should be.

I run Vivaldi on a number of distros including Debian, OpenSUSE and FerenOS with no issues. If it works in Debian it should work in Q4OS.

Same here. Unfortunately, without an address bar, it is kind of hard to use it in Q4OS.

Take a look at this and see if it helps,
https://dbouley.vivaldi.net/2019/12/01/ … i-on-q4os/

The post is a bit old but he did have it running properly on Q4OS.
Could it be an issue with where you sourced Vivaldi for installation?

Look here,
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/naviga … dress-bar/

Could be a configuration issue with both the address bar and the second search bar.

OK, I see what is going on now. Once I hide my extensions, I can see the address bar (which looked like a second search bar). The problem, when I compare to Firefox, Vivaldi is bigger in every way. Bigger text displayed, preferences window is too big, icons (browser and extension) icons, etc. I am using a laptop, but my screen resolution is 1366 x 768, so the problem is a bit weird. I see a bit of the same thing with the developer version of MS Edge for Linux (curious to see how it works on Linux), but the extension icons are normal to small in size.

BTW, the described way of installing Vivaldi is what I always do.

Would these problems with everything on Vivaldi being too large go away, if I switched to the KDE Plasma desktop? I usually use KDE Plasma, so my knee jerk reaction would be “of course”, but it would be nice with a confirmation before I start futzing around trying to figure out how to add KDE Plasma to the mix.

----

OK. I see there is no futzing involved. I installed KDE Plasma, and the Vivaldi browser works as it should, with everything the correct size. Interestingly, as a side note, I notice that when I start Firefox, it just starts with my profile. Vivaldi, when started, restarts the setup process as if it had just been installed for the first time. Not sure if that means anything...

Re: Q4OS 3.13-r1 Trinity doesn't play well with Vivaldi browser.

One of the most significant Q4OS advantages is you can have more powerful Plasma and lightweight Trinity desktops installed side by side and switch between them as needed. We strongly recommend installing desktop environments using the dedicated Desktop profiler tool, it takes care about all the needed dependencies and proper configuration.

Some applications, like Firefox, save their settings in $HOME, so they share settings across desktop environments. Others save configuration in $HOME/.kdeconfig, or $HOME/.tdeconfig, so they are fully separated.

Thanks for the reply. Is there also a recommended way for removing desktop environments?

BTW, cudos for the work on an excellent, but underrated distro. Still coming to terms with the Windows style, but I am not allergic to it smile)

The only way is to remove them manually, using apt tool, for ex. to remove Plasma:
$ sudo apt autoremove q4os-desktop-plasma sddm* plasma-*
and follow steps mentioned here https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.ph … 440#p18440

To remove Trinity desktop:
$ sudo apt autoremove q4os-desktop-trinity tdm-trinity

In Q4OS 4 Gemini Desktop profiler will be able to automatically perform all the steps of the job.
