Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

Many additional reviews that have given Q4OS an average of 9.03 out of 10 score.

6 month ranking is 52, with one week at 60 so Q4OS is hovering around a top 50 status.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

With more and more announcing discontinuation of their 32bit versions, present Q4os as being a great alternative for their old hardware.
(after Arch and others, even Ubuntu has now announced discontinuation of their 32bit Desktop edition.  While they may think they are dropping 386/486, they under-estimate just how much netbooks are out there with Athlon-class processors - that includes the eeePC family, one of the most successful famiy of portables of all time)

That is a great opportunity to bring lots of new attention to Q4os.

Don't forget that most of the folks who have old hardware, also own newer 64bit hardware. And when they see that old box performing well, for what hardware do you think they will look into next?

There is lots of competition to affect rankings... but the competition for the 32bit space is dwindling fast, with only a handful of decent distros left for that.  Some users who swore by their distro are now disappointed and on the lookout for a replacement.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

Agree, 32bit will become a huge selling point for Q4OS and given the many people who have posted reviews commenting on 32 bit use, Im stunned so many distros are dropping it.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

I think we probably get more 32 bit users due to low hardware requirements and low resource usage, although I think the 32 bit machines are becoming fewer and so there might not be a need for that version before too much longer. But it is good to know that whatever machine you get your hands on it is pretty likely there is a Q4OS that will fit. smile

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

I think many underestimate the number of 32bit systems being used.  Most of my clients are still using 32bit hardware even though some also have 64bit hardware available. Most are older laptops that still perform very well.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

Scorpion 2.4 release has skyrocketed Q4OS into the top 50 in the longer rankings and in the one week ranking its 9.  The updated version with 64bit and newer kernel will attract more users.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

nice to see an old friend - hey crosscourt, it's daveB from distroratings

Nice distro.
Fast, user-friendly, plays very well with virtualbox (which is not always the case).
Not sure yet that I'd make it my daily driver on my main laptop (currently Ubuntu+Unity ... yeah I know, but some of us are like that).
It's certainly in my top 3 choices for a secondary laptop or what I'd recommend to bring an XP or Vista box back to life.
My only issue right now - and it's about me, not the distro - is getting used to KDE after using a Gnome-based desktop or an E-desktop. I think I still prefer Gnome but it's not a big deal, certainly not a deal-breaker.

I've only been playing with this for a few hours so it's early days, but overall - very impressive.

Don't sacrifice privacy to get a great OS. Use Linux.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

Hey dave nice to see you.  Ive been running Q4OS for quite awhile, mainly on older systems. You can run whatever DE you like with Q4OS as I use both TDE and XFCE with it.  There is also XPQ4 which wil make it look like WinXP which many people like.  http://xpq4.sourceforge.net

Ive got Scorpion 2.4 running on my test system and may move it over to my main system.

Hope youll stick around and we can catch up a bit.

Love your name Crazycanuck, you and I are both CC, lol!

Have you talked to anyone else from distroratings?

Email me anytime.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

Quite the rise with Q4OS since the Scorpion 2.4 release, One week is at 7 and the rest are 50 or better.  Many more reviews now up to 43 and more buzz in many forums about this release.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

Reviews have been excellent with few issues reported and none serious in the most recent reviews.  Review ranking is slightly over 9 which is as good as any of the mainstream distros.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

I get a little disturbed with some of the reviews on Distrowatch. One review gave it a six because his hardware had configuration issues which were more than likely acpi issues but doesnt mention what hardware hes using.  If he had posted in the forums we could have explained things a bit and the situation could have been better. No matter what distro you are using, some hardware will have issues depending on configuration, age, bios and what the user has done during install.

Many dont install the full desktop profile and are left lacking in some apps that cause further issues.
Overall most of the reviews are in the 9 range with an overall average at 8.96.

Weekly ranking has dropped to 19 but the other rankings are still around 50 or less.

One week took a nose dive to 38 but four week is 18 and the rest at 50 or under.  So far though Q4OS is getting very good  responses overall.

Down to 59 but the rest of the rankings are pretty much unchanged, notably 4 week at 17.  Three new reviews that were very positive and overall ranking is up to 9.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

Reviews jumped up to 53 and overall they were excellent with a few that honestly showed the user didnt quite understand Q4OS and didnt ask any questions here, it appeared. one week and 30 day ratings dropped to around 60 but overall Q4OS is still a top 50 distro.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

Both in our forums where we have gained more members and in outside forums, discussion on Q4OS has increased and is a great sign of larger interest in the OS.  particularly in regards to Windows clones and lightweight distros for older hardware.

Re: Q4OS Distrowatch ranking/promoting/reviews Q4OS

7 day and one month rankings dropped to 60 but the others remain below 50, so we are slipping a bit. OS rating is just below 9 due to some extremely poorly thought out reviews.  If youre going to use a distro you need to understand what youre installing no matter the distro.
