Well, we strongly recommend you to download the most recent Q4OS Orion 1.8.2 version. We assume you have 'Installation CD'. First read Q4OS installation notes here https://www.q4os.org/dqa007.html#inst . Boot from the installation medium. If you want to:
1. Wipe your hard drive completely:
You can launch quick install when the install process starts, it will automatically repartition your drive. Alternatively, run classic install, enter guided partitioning and remove all existing partitions. Let installer create new partitions automatically.
2. Only format some of existing partitions:
You will need to remove existing partitions first and then create new using guided partitioning.
Please do not ignore updates available. We strongly recommend you to install Q4OS Update manager from Software centre and perform all updates as soons as they are available.

ok thanks. this is very frustrating for this 70 yr old guy. why would an o/s work fine for months then someone puts out an update and breaks it. couple of yrs ago i had a similar thing happen with Mint o/s i got from the web, then i ran Ububntu14.4 and a similar thing, one update broke the o/s and getting support is very tedious, especially if you dont understand what happened. there is no-one is my area who teaches or is proficient in Linux. So, i kept this o/s very small and installed minimal stuff on it anticipating the same issues. Seems to me those promoting Linux distros should test their updates more intensively, but more importantly, try to support newbies more effectivley. Yes, i followed the forum ideas for troubleshooting the sound issue, saw that a tone was being sent but there was no output. there was no further ideas i could find, thats the reason for the re=install. Perhaps there should be a way similar to windows restore to roll back the updates. anyway thanks.

There was no wrong update. You have probably met this bug:

It's now fixed as mentioned here:

We are trying to explain the nature of the issue, as it could be quite important for Q4OS folks. We are aware of this serious issue and exerted an efforts to fix that.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a completely flawless operation. Your Q4OS system cannot be easily fixed now. The most easy way is to reinstall it, please see info above #4. If you need any additional help, you are welcome.
