It is understandable that Igor gets worried (like many of us) but, what if Linus were to say good bye forever and even die?
Who would have the keys to the Linux kernel after that?

I think it's a bit like what happened after Ian Murdoch left Debian really, nothing much would really change as there are already a "team" working on it. (just my opinion smile )
