Re: Thunderbird issues

@CaptNoize,

Are you trying to open an "email" in Thunderbir/Dove ?  OR

Are you trying to launch a web link from within the email itself ?

Thanks

Bobby

Re: Thunderbird issues

Yes,,,bobby,the link within the email. I just did what CC suggested.... I'm now using my ISP home email. Not that big of a deal to change to,perhaps a little faster,also,and I might as well use it... I'm paying for it. Starting to get fed up with Mozilla,too....one more issue with it,and I'm moving to Chromium, or Opera.

Re: Thunderbird issues

I installed Kmail  and Kmail-trinity since my ISP email loads so slow. For some reason, it's not showing "import" when I click the file drop down. I can't import my address book...I tried to find the answer in Kmail  Help,but to no avail. What would anyone here on the forum suggest..? Should i 'be just install Kmail alone...?

Re: Thunderbird issues

I don't use kmail myself, but I believe the preferred option is to just install the "kmail-trinity" package, installing the "kmail" package will bring in a lot of other (kde?) dependencies.

Did that solve your problem with the import?

I have to disagree, It is better to install and use KDE applications, because Trinity applications often are outdated and contain bugs. Also lot of them are not supported by their authors, just by Trinity development team. For example I had some problems using K3B-Trinity, but original K3B works very well, and it is my favorite application for DVD burning. I am speaking about applications, that made for KDE interface but also have version for Trinity interface. Another example is ark, which can unpack RAR archives without any problems, but ark-trinity can`t unpack RAR archives containing non-latin symbols in packed file names, because ark-trinity use very old and ten years unmaintained unrar-free program as unpacker.

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Re: Thunderbird issues

I was talking generally, and it is true that you will have to install a lot of kde dependencies if you go for the kde option. I haven't had the issued you mention as I don't use k3b and have had no issues at all with ark.

Re: Thunderbird issues

I had Kmail regular installed before,then this computer crashed when I updated it with distro upgrade 1.4.8  I wouldn't even be installing Kmail if it weren't for IceDove giving me problems,and my ISP email loading so slow. Kmail regular worked flawlessly. So,which of the 2,would this forum recommend...?

Re: Thunderbird issues

@Rademes
Thank you for your valuable support in this forum. We would like to kindly ask you to be in solidarity with TDE, as it allows you to use Trinity desktop with all its benefits. Trinity is a great desktop with a huge loaded work of many developers.
Despite TDE is not perfect, like other projects too, please point out to a particular bugs you surely know, and do not discourage users to use TDE applications in general.

Re: Thunderbird issues

I haven't had any issues with icedove (Thunderbird) and have been using it for years on all distro's, I really like the look and feel of kmail but have had multiple issues when using it with a kde distro that I no longer even consider it. Could it be that whatever caused the crash of the computer could also be part of the issue with kmail? From your earlier post it sounds like you are using an "older" machine (nothing wrong with that, I do too) have you tried claws, it's a pretty light weight email reader I have used in the past on older machines.

Re: Thunderbird issues

Have to agree with CC, I use trinity apps unless there is an issue preventing it, but my needs are pretty simple and q4os easily manages them.

Re: Thunderbird issues

Dai,
This particular machine I'm using is a 2000 Dell Dimension 1000L. It wasn't having any problems with IceDove,until recently. Then it started having the "doesn't support SSE2" pop up,every time I clicked on a link,in a email. I tried just using my ISP email,but it loads too slow..
I had used Kmail on a prior Q4OS install on this same computer,which crashed,during a distro upgrade. I discussed that in a few blogs on the general discussion area of this forum,awhile back.The reason is still undetermined, to this date.
Anyway, I decided to reinstall Kmail again,to see if it would work instead of T-bird. It works,all except I can't import my address book...since the drop down from "file" doesn't exist. If I can't get it to function, perhaps I'll try Claws.

Email's a big pain when it doesn't work, and we take little notice how good a client is when it just works. smile

Just went back to my ISP email account. It's working better, that I changed some of my preferences. I'll just stick with that,for now.

Re: Thunderbird issues

So far, it's working well. I totally agree,CC, that it is the best way out for my personal email. I just leave it open with FireFox....and  I get alerts when  I have a new email... :-)
