can I download additional packages with some other computer ?

.

hello ...

I have been installing Q4OS debian buster
on  a pentium 4

and it worked after changing the graphic card
because the pointer would always stick ...

now ... I have an internet stick from 1&1 at home
and this will not work on this installation ?

or how will it work ?

and ... can I download additional applications
with some other linux at my university
from some where ....

and then take it home
and install from my usb pen ?
on this pentium 4

I am interested mostly having " Gparted " added
and a simple > editor < like the ms editor

does any one here know any thing
about adding more to a Q4OS

without an internet connection ?

.

Re: can I download additional packages with some other computer ?

There are a couple of options depending on how easy you want this to be, the first and easiest option would be to download a deb file which could be installed via the command line (apt install ./packagename.deb) or via Gdebi (a gui installer).

One thing you will need to check is what other dependency packages are needed with your package which you could find out by running a simulation of the install by typing apt -s install package in a terminal and checking what other packages will be installed.

dai@dai-pc:~$ apt install -s gparted
NOTE: This is only a simulation!
      apt needs root privileges for real execution.
      Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated,
      so don't depend on the relevance to the real current situation!
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following additional packages will be installed:
  libatkmm-1.6-1v5 libcairomm-1.0-1v5 libglibmm-2.4-1v5 libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 libpangomm-1.4-1v5 libsigc++-2.0-0v5
Suggested packages:
  xfsprogs reiserfsprogs reiser4progs jfsutils mtools yelp kpartx dmraid gpart udftools
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  gparted libatkmm-1.6-1v5 libcairomm-1.0-1v5 libglibmm-2.4-1v5 libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 libpangomm-1.4-1v5 libsigc++-2.0-0v5

Inst libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 (1:2.24.5-4 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
Inst gparted (0.32.0-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
Conf libsigc++-2.0-0v5 (2.10.1-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
Conf libglibmm-2.4-1v5 (2.58.0-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
Conf libatkmm-1.6-1v5 (2.28.0-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
Conf libcairomm-1.0-1v5 (1.12.2-4 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])

Conf libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 (1:2.24.5-4 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
Conf gparted (0.32.0-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])

This shows that on my system I would also need to download and install the following packages

libsigc++-2.0-0v5 (2.10.1-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
libglibmm-2.4-1v5 (2.58.0-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
libatkmm-1.6-1v5 (2.28.0-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
libcairomm-1.0-1v5 (1.12.2-4 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
libpangomm-1.4-1v5 (2.42.0-2 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])
libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 (1:2.24.5-4 Debian:10.1/stable [amd64])

Obviously you would need to download the deb files and install them as well as the gparted deb file. Also note any suggested packages that you might want and download them too.

The packages can be obtained from the debian online repository and placed on a usb stick to transfer them to your offline machine.

To make finding the deb files easier you can search google for "debian package gparted" and it should show in one of the first hits the packages.debian.org page for that package (and the others if searched for).
